Lets start getting some discussion going on some of these key Congress races. I would love for posters who reside in these areas to post about their own analysis from on the ground.
Here are some updates:
NY Fossella (R) Open Seat
Robert Straniere, a Staten Island politician who spent 24 years in the state assembly before losing re-election, is making a bid for Vito Fossella's congressional seat.
Straniere was never popular with the Staten Island GOP and lost his bid for re-election through a contentious primary battle and he currently resides in Manhattan but is moving back to the island for the run.
KY 2 Lewis (R) Open Seat
A Survey USA poll shows trouble for us:
The WHAS 11/Survey USA poll shows Boswell leading his fellow state senator by a 47%-44% margin. The 4.3% margin of error makes this a virtual dead heat with 9% of likely voters saying they're undecided. Boswell and Guthrie are vying for the seat that's being vacated by the retiring congressman Ron Lewis, a republican who held the seat for 14 years. The Cook Report rates the 2nd District as solidly republican but this poll seems to show that Boswell's statewide name recognition from his days at Agriculture Commissioner may be nullifying Guthrie's party registration at this point.
LA 6 Cazayoux (D)
State Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, is the only sure challenger to Congressman Don Cazayoux, and he hopes to keep it that way, on the GOP side at least.
Now that former Republican candidate Laurinda Calongne has ruled out another try, the big questions hanging over the July 9-11 qualifying period are will Woody Jenkins run again in the GOP primary and will Rep. Michael Jakcson, D-Baton Rouge, file as an independent.
Cassidy is concentrating on raising money and appears to be having success, judging from the list of hosts for his fundraiser last night. They included many of the business and professional elite who were missing from Jenkins' campaign finance reports.
IL 11 Weller (R) Open Seat
What looked like a lost seat for us has turned into something of a bright light. Dem nominee Debbie Halvorson is being hammered for her links to very unpopular governor Rod Blagojevich and this week Congressman Jackson called her a liar.
but I'll keep watching for anything I have to report before others do.
are lost causes because they usually go 2-to-1 for the democrat.
However, McClintock won the nomination for CA-4, and I heard that , Duncan D. Hunter is seeking his dad's seat (CA-52). The younger Hunter is a retires Marine Corps captain who had to put his campaign on hold for six months for a tour of duty in Afghanistan, and his democratic opponent, Mike Lumpkin, is a former Navy SEAL. I'll update when I know more.

4.62, 0.51
Two vets running against each other, one D and one R, hard to guess what issues will drive this one.
The younger Hunter does have name brand, and his story of putting his campaign on hold to go to Iraq is powerful, but an ex Seal, retired Navy officer is going to be a tough guy to run against. Guess it will come down to how people view the war and illegal immigration, with Lumpkin being the more liberal on both topics.

NObama...no way!.....McCain '08 !
CQ Politics has rated it "Safe Republican." SanDiegoPolitico would be the place to go to stay updated on this race.

I always thought Bob Kerrey, former SeAL, would have been the smart nominee from the 1992 Democrat field.
Then again, Jesse Ventura was a SeAL, and was also a state governor, but that's probably where his similarities end with Kerrey. I don't know anything about Mike Lumpkin; I'm sure he was a fine sailor and SeAL but that's no indication of other talents that might be suitable for a legislator.
What about the really key Congress race in California. CA 11 McNerney (D)
We lost this seat in 06 but we have a great candidate in Dean Andal (R) - Ex-State Equalization Board Member, Ex-State Assemblyman & Businessman
Any thought on this CA race?
Thanks fellow posters. Others please add yours!
I never heard of an Equalization Board but I like how it sounds:
though given the geographic makeup of that district, I'd call it a tossup.

in recent years but I really can't. Hasn't worked that way for Jim Webb at all and he's probably as close as the party has come to finding such a persona lately.
Any Texas posters whats happening in the Lampson race? i have not hear anything
What about Penn, CT, upstate NY races? Anybody?
I heard on the radio that Lou Barletta (R) is up by 5 against 12-term incumbent Rep. Kanjorski(sp?) (D-PA-11).

3 GOP candidates in the primary to unseat the Dem Mr. Lincoln Davis. Vets For Freedom has endorsed Kent Greenough (Green O)is the solid vets choice to replace Lincoln. Kent is up against a millionaire that is being pushed by the TN GOP leadership team. I've listen to Lincoln, Kent and Monty Lankford and I can tell you Kent Greenough understands the issues of the 4th (rural). But, money is the key to win this race. Lincoln and Monty have the money but both can be beat. Lincoln once was a Blue Dog but now he has been labled as a SF Dem's and riding Pelosi skirt tails.
Monty Lankfords website you can see why the vets have a problem with him.
Monty on Security:
The number one job of the government is protecting our people. That means a stronger military with the ability to project force overseas. It means tighter homeland security and it means taking the war on terror to the terrorists. It means regaining control of our borders. With the right direction, we can be correct without being cruel.
District polls shows Kent leading but we have 65% undecided voters. Kent needs everyones support to win this race.
Thanks for all the updates on these races.
I'd really like for some other posters to tell us yours.
A new poll suggests tight races between two Miami Democrats and the Cuban-American Republican members of Congress they are challenging.
The poll by Bendixen & Associates shows the first significant Democratic challengers to Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart trailing by single digits four months out from the election. Potentially more troubling for the GOP incumbents, the poll shows neither cracked 50 percent of the vote.
Lincoln Diaz-Balart leads former Hialeah mayor Raul Martinez 41 percent to 37 percent in the poll, with 22 percent undecided. Mario Diaz-Balart leads Joe Garcia, former chairman of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, 44 percent to 39 percent, with 17 percent undecided.
I find this alarming as the Cuban American population has always been solid Republican.

I'm here in Virginia's Second. Thelma Drake is running against a virtual unknown, Glenn Nye. She narrowly defeated her last opponent 51-48. Bush won 57-42 in 2004.
From what I've seen they are going to try to make gas/oil prices a major issue, which I think has to help Rep. Drake.
She has been targeted by the DCCC. I've seen the seat listed as leans Republican. My local, small-town paper is shilling for Nye.
