African American Turnout Is Way Up

Just as we suspected African Americans are turning out in record numbers. Some quotes from an article in NYTimes today

"With the strong support of black voters, a conservative white Democrat, Travis W. Childers, scored an upset victory in that race, in a district held by Republicans since 1995. Kelvin Buck, a black state representative who helped the Childers campaign, said he saw a “level of enthusiasm and energy” that he had not seen before from black voters — significantly motivated, he said, by a recent Republican anti-Obama campaign.

The numbers appear to bear that out. In one black precinct in the town of Amory, Miss., the number of voters nearly doubled, to 413, from the Congressional election in 2006, and this for a special election with nothing else on the ballot. Meanwhile, in a nearby white precinct, the number of voters dropped by nearly half." Source NYTimes

Larry J. Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, said: “This is going to encourage the purplization of red states. It’s going to make red states purplish over time.”

Between an initial vote on April 22, when Mr. Childers fell just shy of getting the 50 percent he needed to win, and Tuesday’s runoff election, when he won with a decisive 54 percent, the Republican campaign to link Mr. Childers with Mr. Obama intensified, with a barrage of advertisements specifically on that theme. Perhaps not coincidentally, vote totals in counties with large black populations went up sharply between those two dates. In Marshall County, which is 48.8 percent black, the votes nearly doubled, to 5,083. In Clay County, 56.8 black, nearly 1,500 more people voted, pushing the total to 3,898.

It is a very important article for us to all understand that African American turnout will be high in each and every state this year and how that impacts races for Congress, US Senate, and Gov race is sure to be seen.

Obama has been boosting black turnout all year.

I thought there was something about going potty in the woods with that too.

Well, I guess trying to post here can garner rude comments from certain posters now.

More reasons why party is in such sad shape; you try to show some facts and people get an attitude

Well if you post blogs stating that the sun will come up tomorrow or African Americans are voting in large numbers for Obama, you expect less?

My dogs know that much, and they are cute but not very bright. I doubt that within this collection of political junkies here on RS, the facts that Obama is black, and black people are voting at about 92 percent rate were missed until you enlightened us. DOH

I posted an article showing just how much blacks increased in recent special election in MS which I did not know but alas I guess you are so much brighter.

Brighter no...but by SteveLA

did

Sorry no, not brighter, but I'm not as good as you at stating the obvious.

News Flash...Barrack Obama is black, he is attracting black voters to the polls. Besides that one point, do you have a point, is there a point to be made outside of that, if a tree fell in the woods would anyone care, do I care?

Deep dialectic it ain't.

with the "Vote or Die" campaign. I was at the Columbus, Ohio BOE where buses of people were brought in to vote. If you were not on the rolls at your local precinct you could vote at the BOE headquarters. I watched 100's of young African-American girls line up to vote. Most were all wearing the red "Vote or Die" t-shirts that included ACORN and other groups names on the shirts. They were boisterous and some appeared to have enjoyed an adult beverage on their way to the polls. I also noticed something else -- they were very vocal about voting for NOT BUSH.

This maybe one of the reasons why they were taking so long with the ballot -- they kept looking for NOT BUSH on the ballot.

At the time I thought that these girls would never come out and vote again if BUSH won. I had not considered Obama pulling them out to the polls.

What concerns me is that I fully expect the same group that will register Minnie Mouse et al will not honor the one person one vote concept. I anticipate there will be people registered in multiple precincts and states. They will vote absentee in one state, another in the morning, a third in the afternoon, and a fourth in the evening. The college kids in Madison did it.

I also already see the logic they will apply. There is a sense of entitlement so why shouldn't they be allowed to vote several times as payback for the years they did not vote. The rules of society do not apply -- after all that is white society and status quo evil entrenched power. They are change.

What protections are there against multiple registrations in multiple states except the good character and honesty of the person involved?
