RedState 3.0: Where do we go from here?

By Erick Posted in Comments (29) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

ImageWe've got about two weeks left. Where do we go from here?

It is my intention for RedState 3.0 to be much more focused on activism. In fact, that has been my goal from day one of the redesign: provide tools to the VRWC to organize online via RedState and collaborate on campaigns, issues, activism, etc.

Many of us feel -- and it is a *feeling* -- that whoever wins on November 4th, we'll be in the minority.

So here's the thing. First, what Mike said.

Second, you don't want to rah-rah John McCain? Fine. I'm happy to pull your weight around. All you have to do is turn your fire on the Democrats. This site aims to win and it is our intention to support McCain. If you don't want to, I'm not going to make you. But, see the third point.

Third, there is a candidate in your state that you support. He or she may be running for mayor or city council or district attorney or the state legislature or governor or congress. There may be a *Democrat* you cannot tolerate running for office in your state. Heck, there may be two or five or a dozen such candidates. There might even be an issue on the ballot you care about.

Get writing about that candidate or issue. In RedState 3.0 you'll have the power to create the state sites. Your post on candidate X in Wisconsin will be on the front page of RedState Wisconsin.

Read on . . .

So, in short, stop your bitching* about how you are being dissed by one side of the coalition, recognize that your side of the coalition cannot win by itself, commit to do no harm on our team, and go fight to win. We intend to do that and we want you here slogging it out fighting for truth, justice, and the American way -- whether it be for a Republican or against a Democrat.

P.S. - Despite using "stop your bitching" as opposed to "shut up" (and I really wanted to use STFU), ditto, ditto, ditto.

*I was going to use STFU, but I'll restrain myself.

Two weeks, yipee! by simpson316

You guys will love 3.0. It does rock. And the state blog function is nice. Dig into your local stuff at the click of a button.

I would add: If you know any other local bloggers encourage them to post occasionally on RS. It's good for RS and could be good for their traffic.

Yes, local cross posts by Neil Stevens

Just remind them to cross post the whole article, with a link back home at the end. Don't just post the intro and a READ MORE link.

Regarding state-by- state by E Pluribus Unum

I sincerely hope we have a RedState correspondent in Wash state who'll give us the up-to-the-minute goods on Rossi vs Gregoire 2 : Vengeance Is Mine.

I'm from Washington, but am not living there now, so no up-to-date.

But I'll tell you that I know that Rossi has ALREADY received contributions from more people then he received in the ENTIRE CAMPAIGN last time, and over 60% of them are from new donars.

By the time it is done, he'll probably have raised more then double the amount of money that he did last time. Gregoire will too, because the SIEU really, really, really wants to keep their pet, but it'll be the most expensive race in the history of Washington.

I have a few... by RandomGuy

But I seem to pick the wrong friends occasionally.

By that, I mean I knew the previous Party Chairman, Chris Vance, fairly well, and knew Diane Tebelius (who succeeded him) as well. However, Tebelius was purged after 2006 for what was, in my opinion, largely irrational anger over the 2006 elections by Luke Esser, who's also a good guy that I have no problem with, but I don't know him well.

Anyhow, I've still got a few friends. If I ever wanna go back I'm sure I'll be able to look them up.

and from Washington. Gregoire must be taken down.

get the tacoma Rag delivered to my inbox every morning and read the PI every now and again. I'll be there in August, so I'll try to update after that.
I will probably throw a little cash Rossi's way just because.

Question!!! by BigGator5

Will everything from this RedState be lost?

John McCain for 2008!

No by Neil Stevens

We won't be porting all the posts over right away (if ever), but a read-only version of RS 2 will still be up so all your old posts will still be around.

I was privileged to see it fairly early and it is wonderful.

Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity

but next to the comment count below the title, can we get a "read" count.

It would be interesting to see how many people are reading my articles even if they never get recomended any more :=)

That one might be difficult to do. But it's not a bad idea. BTW, did you get my email with an invite to check out the site?

Except for a very few (I think I was lucky enough to have one lately), most posts aren't controversial and therefore don't get commented on or recommended a whole lot.

Timing, brother by E Pluribus Unum

Here's a secret I've learned. Do not post a new diary after 4pm or so. If possible, post at 8-10am. Eye-catching title, even if it's somewhat misleading.

Some days I am rec'd happy, other days, not so much.

On the current site if the blog falls off the Recommended Blogs list, I have a hell of a time finding posts to blogs I was reading. So will there be an easy to use search function?

Based on recent discussions here, I would love to be able to automatically blot out the entries of certain posters. It could also come in handy when trolls arrive and the cavalry hasn't had a chance to expunge them yet.

And from what I recall they will try to get something like that going. The new platform allows for a lot more customization. It just takes a lot of ground work (a good portion of that is being done by Neil...thank you Neil).
