Ohio Dems Start Impeachment Against AG Dann

It seems lies and misleading statements related to sexual harassment charges are now an impeachable offense. Or at least Ohio Democrats think so:

House Democrats filed articles of impeachment this morning against Attorney General Marc Dann, charging him with nine counts relating to a sexual harassment scandal that has led to widespread calls for him to resign.

The articles, outlined in a resolution sponsored by 42 of the 45 House Democrats, contend that Dann warrants impeachment for "misconduct in office rising to the level of malfeasance, neglect, nonfeasance, gross neglect of duty, improper exercise of authority and gross immorality."

Here are the charges:

- Obstructed the internal investigation into allegations of sexual harassment in his office.
- Willfully and intentionally issued misleading statements under oath.
- Neglected to perform the duties of his office and by his own admission was not competent or qualified for the job.
- Knew or should have known that his own admitted sexual affair with an employee contributed to and allowed a hostile work environment.
- Failed to ensure the safety and security of state property.
- Failed to investigate and prohibit improper use of state property.
- Knew or should have known of the misuse of state property for personal business.
- Committed acts of gross neglect of duty by undermining the integrity of his office; bringing disrepute upon the office; betraying the public trust as Ohio's chief law enforcement officer; and undermining the effectiveness and efficiency of the office.
- Committed acts of gross immorality and knew or should have known that his personal conduct undermined the effectiveness and efficiency of the office.

Marc Dann simply doesn't have enough friends in the Democratic party these days. His arrogant and combative style alienated even his own party. So they are seeking to remove him from office before his reputation starts to impact their own.

I seem to recall another elected official who got into similar trouble but who was treated rather differently by Democrats.

There also seems to be an interesting pattern developing. When Republicans get into trouble it is a "culture of corruption" but when Democrats get into trouble it is just an isolated incident. Convenient.

The charges seem pretty serious. Are they untrue or do you just think that they don't warrant impeachment?

You're supposed to wait until one of us actually says something like that before you can get huffy about it.

I'm not sure what you mean. I don't know anything about the case against AG Dann, but based on Holtsberry's post, it seems he needs to go. I understand there is also a point to be made about Dem hypocrisy but it seems like that's better made in cases like Spitzer and Jefferson, not by defending an apparent bad actor like Dann.

No, he should resign by Kevin Holtsberry

Too much snark and not enough communication in this post, I guess. No, I think he should resign. His actions are disgraceful.

I just think it is funny how suddenly these charges call for immediate impeachment. How the Ohio Dems are unified against him. He clearly pissed off his own party.

And it is interesting how differently the arguments were when Bill Clinton was involved.

They made it seem that the case against Clinton was about his marital infidelity instead of the real charges of obstruction of justice and perjury.
