The end of Mitt Romney. Was it that "silly flip-flopping thing"?

In lamenting the political demise of her guy Mitt, NRO's Kathryn Jean Lopez suggests that the candidate's problem might have been that "silly flip-flopping thing," or that Romney might have taken "too long to rise above it." Oh, I don't know.
For a lot of people, that "silly flip-flopping thing" is the essence of Mitt Romney, what defines him; something which, being that integral to his being, cannot be risen above or escaped.
And we cannot forget when he tried to excuse part of his problem by insisting to FNS host Chris Wallace, with a straight face, that at as governor of California, Ronald Reagan was "adamantly pro-choice." Governor Romney's statement about Governor Reagan was not consistent with the truth. ('T is a very pleasant way to phrase it.) Certainly this bothered those of us who admired Ronald Reagan, his honesty, and the way in which he came to grips with the matter of abortion as it became an issue in America.
This episode if almost at its end. The Republican Party is now challenged to united behind John McCain, and I am going to trust that this sounds potentially more difficult than it will prove to be. I think I'll start with an innocuous yard sign. Where are they?
