Mac the Knife killed my camel !

Over the last month I have read the many posts and diaries about our * cough * Republican nominee for President, Senator John McCain. You have your “anyone but Obama” supporters, and I am truly sympathetic to that stance. I have no desire for a Marxist President, Obama, with the Dems in apparent control of both Houses. I see a real possibility that if he wins he will drive this country into the ground economically and ruin our “real” advances militarily in the War on Terror. Those two possibilities scare the bejeezus out of me. An administration that was adversarial to business and the free market is what really caused the so-called Great Depression, especially when it comes to how long it lasted. So yes Obama is a real worry.
But my voting for John McCain seems to become less likely with each passing day as he takes for his own liberal causes and liberal actions that will do nothing but prolong my country's misery. After vacillating back and forth several times I had convinced myself to vote for him for no other reason than for those soldiers and military families that have sacrificed so much and deserve to have that sacrifice justified by success in this war. I lost family and friends in Vietnam, I was too young to serve then but not to feel deeply the loss and then only to have salt rubbed in those wounds when our government quit and walked away. All that sacrifice and loss for NOTHING! I don't want that to happen again, it means a lot to me. That one reason carries a hell of a lot of weight with me but everyday McCain chips away at it and I find myself asking myself how many principles do I have to overlook, how many of my very strong beliefs to I have to give up on to vote for him? And given all the real damage a McCain presidency can do is it worth it for my country and my self respect that I overlook so many of my heartfelt beliefs and vote for the lesser evil. Would Adam and Eve have been any less guilty for eating the forbidden fruit if before they ate it they had convinced themselves it was the right thing to do? Isn't that exactly what happened and look what it got them! When John McCain stood up with that Democrat Governor, form Oregon I think it was, and took the global warming cause on as his own, it may have been the proverbial straw that broke the back of that poor old camel as far as my vote goes.
He chipped away at my vote with McCain/Fiengold and again with McCain/Kennedy. He knocked a huge chunk off when he took Juan Hernandez onto his team. The so called Gang of 14 was just another maneuver that prevented Republicans from doing the right thing and fighting for what was right. And now, in addition to those things I haven't mentioned, he's either sucking up to the left again or is a complete idiot for falling for the Global Warming Cult and a carbon Cap & Trade scam that takes money from our pockets and achieves nothing.
So, like Eight Bells, my camel (vote) is down on the track and there's a RiNO with a needle heading towards me mumbling there's nothing we can do. To vote for McCain I have to overlook so many things I believe in that I don't know who I will be afterwards. Will I still respect myself or will I have to throw out all the mirrors in my house? November 3rd, 2008 would be great timing for the rapture.....no?
My sympathies to you regarding your loss; I know you and your camel were quite close. He was a good camel; patient, obedient and a beloved companion. He will be missed.
My camel, too, is suffering from a severe back injury of which he may not recover. The America's Climate Security Act of 2007 authored by Senators Lieberman and Warner, which will no doubt be signed by either Obama or McCain is a straw too burdensome to bear. Read the analysis of the bill here at the Heritage Foundation.

You will no doubt be criticized for your views but remember when standing on principle is what the conservative movement was all about. When our desire to win elections is greater than our commitment to conservative principles then we are a party of whores-always choosing the lesser of two evils.
I can understand and sympathize about not wanting to vote for John McCain. However, please don't let that stop you from voting and working for other Republicans running for office-- we need every vote we can get for Republicans for every other office out there. The more Republicans we have in Congress and in state and local offices, the better off we are.

A camel is a horse designed by a committee, as the old saying goes, and certainly not a suitable vehicle for the Republican Part in the 21st century.
Rather than lamenting over your camel's demise, it'd be far wiser to find a better way of getting around town.
And Rightly So!
