A Year At RedState

It's hard to believe it's been a year now since I signed on at RedState. It's been a great ride. We've gone through a tough Presidential Primary campaign. Most of us here didn't end up with our preferred candidate. The good news is, we ended up with one with great character and conviction who loves his Country.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Directors and Contributors. RedState is the great place that it is because of each and every one of you. I'm always challenged to improve the quality of what I write because of the standard that you set.
I'm looking forward to the final release of RS 3.0. It's happening at just the right time as we approach the fall General Election season. I'm fortunate to live in a battleground State. We have our work cut out for us here.
We have a fight for our country this time, that's going to take everything we have. We can't sit this one out, because the stakes are too high. Lives are in the balance this time. We're currently governed too often by Five Men who rule by judicial fiat. One candidate will contnue this trend. The other candidate will stop it.
I'm off on a month-long business trip today, so my contributions will be limited for awhile. I'll be blogging my trip at my personal site if anyone cares to follow it. It's my first time going to Europe and Southeast Asia, so I'll be like a kid in the candy store.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with me for this past year. I'm sure there are just as many of you that are frustrated with me at times as I am with some of you. Though without that, I doubt I'd spend as much time here as I do. Oh, and one more thing.
Every single one of you is WRONG.
you're gone, we'll change all your blog entries to reflect that you were actually a Paultard all along, sold all your investments and bought gold (or a shrimp farm), demanded withdrawal in Iraq and supported chickenhawking as a form of public discourse.
And that's what you get for going off and leaving us for a month! But have a wonderful time and, no fear, we'll hold the fort while you're gone. Bring us back something pretty.
You're one of the good guys, Randy.
I think... :-)
once you are back home, you will appreciate the good ole USA even more.
Oh, and drink as much beer as you can. It's cheaper than soda and sometimes even water. :>)

As someone who also is celebrating an anniversary of being a RS member, I can't express enough thanks to the people who make this site what it is. I started out as a novice conservative who was ignorant regarding some of our causes, but because of RedState, I've become more educated about not only what my cause is, but what the rest of my brothers and sisters are fighting for. The people of this site made me realize that there is always improvement to be made of one's self, and with that I applied and was accepted for a public affairs master's program to which I'll work my behind off to help us. Thanks to everyone.

speciallist is a sock-puppet of mine...some of you know this and some of you are slow on the uptake.
Surprise!!
It is my Alter-ego when I want to have some laughs and I will be blogging thru it while I'm on this trip...
nighttwister will be back in a Month!! See ya then.
So sir how does it feel to have Night Twister's hand in an inconvenient area ?

Lord Vegas is NOT amused. :-)
That sock puppet isn't mine (I don't have one). Impersonating someone else is not allowed here, and that's essentially what this speciallist is doing.

I really don't appreciate someone else's comments being attributed to me.
I don't speak for the RS Directors, or any of the other Contributors, but to the best of my knowledge speciallist's claims cannot be substantiated.
It cannot be true!

a mere sock puppet.
Now I feel like a total moron. Thanks, man. I'm going to question my own intelligence for at least the next several minutes.

I don't know who this is, but it isn't me.

I posted a comment a brazillian times.
A card I saw at target:
Dick Cheney leans over to President Bush and says "Sir, we just heard word that we're going to be getting help from 100 Brazillian troops."
President Bush thinks for a moment and says "Great, how many is a Brazillian?"
I'm not a fan of ripping on the President's intelligence, but that one made me laugh quite a bit.

You are taking a long vacation. Glad to know I'm completely off-base on everything else. All of the other sentiments expressed still apply. BTW, were you born in November?
bon voyage
drop enough hints, either. I'm just one of the slow ones:)
Have fun. Maybe we'll all be at 3.0 when you get back. And we won't let Janis make too much fun of you while you're gone. :)
I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
And have a safe trip. Hopefully, all that cool stuff (like that monitor) will still be in your cube when you get back. You know how people around here are...
It's been great to have a fellow "gun nut" on board here at Redstate for the past year or so. It's really a tragedy that 2nd Amendment rights are primarily a Republican issue but I chalk that up to larger philosophical and political crosscurrents. You're on the mark though about what kind of a world we're living in and what we can expect and have to be prepared for:
We have a fight for our country this time, that's going to take everything we have. We can't sit this one out, because the stakes are too high. Lives are in the balance this time.
And we have a lot of work to do: reestablishing the Republican 'brand', and keeping the flame even if we're not in control of Congress and the Presidency, and standing up and organizing effectively in contradistinction to a group of people who are certainly going to overcompensate in the wrong direction. It means that we're all going to have to act as though everything we do redounds from our first principles instead of our convenient evasions of those principles. We're going to have to work harder than ever before.
Redstate has taken a few hits in the past year. Some of my favorite people here don't blog as often or as awesomely as they did when I started, and that's a shame. Thomas isn't around much. Bob Hahn only brings out his Broadsword of Truth once in a blue moon. Academic Elephant is mostly a lurker. Trevino only pops in from time to time. Mike Krempasky himself very rarely publishes here any more. It's a little dispiriting, and only partially compensated for by the fresh faces.
Alternatively, it could be said that Redstate has a lot in reserve, and that it will start firing on all sixteen cylinders again when the time is right to put all the plug caps back on. Let's hope so, because you're missing something that I was fortunate enough to have in the early days of my participation here.
In the meantime, hold on fast and happy anniversary!

To all of the absentees (not that one) or otherwise infrequent first rank bloggers here at this site, have a listen to one of my favorite old songs and consider getting back here as soon as you can:
Defend Liberty -- Join the NRA | Live in Massachusetts? Join GOAL.
And I hope it isn't true, but one of my fears about the participatory blogosphere for Republicans and Conservatives is that it's actually counterproductive. I have had a very hard time discerning in the past few years whether the Republican/Conservative blogosphere was really a net positive or a net negative for Republicans and Conservatives.
The reason is that by writing anything on a blog, you expose it to the world. It's a terrible medium in which to do strategy for example. The internet in general is a terrible strategic medium if you construe youself as being in an ideological struggle and your main goal is to win: there is no gainsaying because everything is relentlessly externalized.
I don't know whether that's the motivation behind the lack of publishing on some people's parts. I have always had a suspicion that Republican blogging was a fad that was popular while Republicans were in power in all three branches, but it's much less useful and worthwhile when they're not.
On the other hand it could just be that people are pretty much bushed and bewildered, and yes the pun was intended.

Well played this year, NightTwister/Speciallist. People like you, the "regulars" who write consistently well without being official Contributers, are what make this site great.
Visionaries like Trevino, Krempasky(what ever happened to him anyhow?) and now even Thomas have gone, but you have helped to fill in the ranks. Cary on.
