Message to Congress and President Bush: Fix this (care for veterans) NOW.

I admit I know little about the military healthcare system beyond what veterans tell me and my belief that any government ran health care of any type is inherently flawed. To that extent I hope that a series recommended changes made today by a bipartisan panel might make a difference.
The panel was co headed by Donna Schalala and former Senator Bob Dole released its findings today regarding veteran health care with several key findings - many of which can be done without legislation.
To the President, Secretary of Defense and to Congress in particular I say this: Strike while the anvil is hot. If you honestly care about these men and women who sacraficed more than we ever will, then correct these problems with haste.
There is no excuse for dragging this legislation out like Democratic Congressional leaders have other important bills like providing vital supplies for the armed forces in combat.
Time is ticking people. Lets get this done.
many of these people have paid the ultimate price while those in congress sit in the offices emboldening those who would do them harm.
its about time politicians paid the piper and properly supported our veterans.
This problem needs to be dealt with NOW, not in six or eight months.
1. Remember who is in control of the Congress
2. Remember who decides which bills will be brought to the floor for a vote. (a corollary to #1)
3. Look long and hard to find which Democrat CongressCritter™ is going to sponsor and introduce the bill.
For some it is soooooo easy to jump all over President Bush or Republican CongressCritters™ for not ramming something through the Congress. A minority can play defense and Senate filibuster, but they can not lead an offensive charge as a minority.
"We should scrap this “comprehensive” immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders -- or at least made great headway."

Paul, Thank You.
I'll be calling my senators and rep tomorrow, and the WH.
I hope everyone reading will. This is precisely our moment to
"Support the Troops", when it really counts.
Where is this going? I loved hearing Bob Dole say he was going to fight for this, to make sure the President didn't forget.
I've only had perfunctory comments in reply to my letters to DeMint, Graham and my Rep. Barrett. But like Dole, I won't let them forget.
What's ahead, in your view?
Any follow-up on this story?
Has anyone spoken with their reps to see what's ahead...and what we can do?

I agree 100 percent with you, the problems in our Veterans health care need to be fixed and need to be fixed now.
President Bush and Minority Leader McConnell along with Minority Whip Bonner need to make a public call for the Congress of the United States to forgo their August recess until legislation is on the Presidents desk implementing the recommendations of this commission.
Democrats want to say they support the troops, fine, all they would have to do is decide paying attention to this problem is more important than their Summer break. Also to be fair, if we the US can pressure the Iraqi government to keep it's Parliament in session to deal with pressing issues, the least our government can do is the same.
Time for some of that remaining leadership capital to get invested Mr. President, and who knows it might pay some dividends.
