ATTN: Oil Execs - PLEASE grow a backbone!
By scottbomb Posted in Energy — Comments (9) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »
The Democrats are putting on a circus today as the oil company execs get their latest lashing on Capitol Hill. There's talk of a "windfall profits tax" that will do absolutely NOTHING to help ease skyrocketing fuel costs. The House wants to sue OPEC and Bush is threatening a veto. Meanwhile, gas across America climbs to $4+ per gallon.
The question is, when will these oil execs stand up to the Democrats and tell them the truth? The solution really is quite simple: more exploration and refining of OUR OWN OIL.
This goes for President Bush, too. He can veto all he wants but the Democrats are going to make this an election year issue. They'll rally the public to punish "big oil" but we all know that it won't make a darn bit of difference at the gas pump.
Obama says we "can't drill out way out" of the problem. With (at least) over 120 BILLION barrels of oil right here in America, I say to Barack, "YES WE CAN".
Mr. McCain, what say you? I'm not interested in any talk about "global warming" and "alternative energy" right now. We're looking at oil going to $200/barrel and all these dimwits in Congress can talk about is how they want to tax it! Do you want to win this election or not? It's time for an energy policy that makes sense and right now, nobody in Washington is delivering.
It seems that what the GOP needs is a Republican Bill Clinton (with better morals) ....dingo

I'm curious if there is anybody who could fill this list.

or actually, every GOP candidate who ran, not named you-know-who.

Scottbomb is right on the mark with this.
If our Repub leaders had any back bone they would be telling the citizens how the lefty wacko wing of the Democrats have promted legislation for the past 30+ years that have put us in this position. Like capping off wells, forcing US oil supplies to be light sweet crude, stopped all drilling and producing from known or new sources in US, Feds leasing bilions of acres of land that oil companies can't drill or produce from. But als I'm afraid that us repubs have some votes in this that don't look good either !!!
We are paying for this now big time. But the Dem solution is to sue OPEC, LOL... Just what you would expect from a party that gets its largest donations from the American Trial Lawyers Assoc., Sierra Club, et al.
We are in trouble people. This will go right over the head of Obama and Mccain can't say he isn't aware of it either ?
OPEC as well as all the other producers (Canada) know they have us, as they say "Over a Barrel".
My 2 cents
Imagine if he were to address the nation on TV and tell it like it is. The kind of address where he's on most all major networks at once. His threats to veto stupid lawsuit legislation from Congress is all well and good but he needs to take the case to the American people and get this debate going in the public square.
I read an article yesterday where some finance guru sees $12-$15/gallon gas in his crystal ball. TWELVE TO FIFTEEN PER GALLON! We'll have to re-inforce our gas tanks just to keep the thieves out.

That has been my wish for years, to see the president get on the tube and give his side to the people. Bush has absolutely nothing to lose at this time and it would give the party some ammunition.
I think it would have been good mediciine for this country if he had done it sooner but is better late than never.
Just another piece of puzzle check out this: http://www.historytextbooks.org/islam.htm
Republicans could gain some major ground on this issue alone by stopping the "no drilling in my backyard" nonsense, but no, they are going soft on us.
If one fact of China drilling off the Florida coast (cuba) was emphasized, their would be more support.
Save the polar bears instead, wait, we'll be EATING the polar bears if ethanol keeps driving up food prices.

I believe we need:
1) more drilling
2) conservation
3) alternative energy supplies
4) new technology that does not depend on oil as an energy source
