Barack's problem isn't 'bitter'

Recall that Barack Obama said that Americans in "small towns" are "bitter" and therefore "cling to guns and religion." The Obama campaign has tried to focus on the "bitter" part, with the assist of the media, instead of the "cling to guns and religion" part. ABC's Jake Tapper gets it:

As Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and his allies have locked into damage control mode and attempted to explain his controversial remarks about small-town Pennsylvanians, they've attempted to focus their pushback away from the most controversial part of his remarks to an elite crowd at a San Francisco fundraiser. ...

While the description of small town Pennsylvanians as "bitter" is certainly impolitic, many political analysts say it's what follows that adjective that is potentially so alienating -- the notion that small town folks "get bitter" after which "they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

You know who else gets it? Hillary Clinton. Her new ad doesn't even have the word "bitter". It is all about "cling[ing] to ... religion." Read on to watch the ad.

And the Clinton campaign probably focused group this ad before they ran it. The blood bath continues.

Poor Ariana Huffington. I wonder what is worse for her. Seeing the attack on the Obamessiah, or recognizing that her website was the source.

I wish by Pentagon16

that it was the GOP coming up with this ad- but hopefully our dumb media guys can cut and paste the exact same one for the general election.

Why is it that Hillary is running a better anti-Obama campaign than the GOP?!!

that is disconcerting to say the least..

It's a GOOD thing that the Republicans have, for the most part, stayed out of this. Let the Democrats bash one another because the moment the GOP get's overtly involved, it just becomes another "lie" of the Vast Right-wing Conspiracy: just another partisan attack.

Democrats beating up Democrats makes it all the more believable to the general public and devastating to the Democratic nominee. Let the donks destroy their own in the primary; all we need to do is bury the corpse in the general.

take the high road, pop some popcorn, and enjoy the show! McCain is doing the right thing by staying out of this.

anti-trade by Wycoff

To me, the most interesting part of Obama's quote is the "anti-trade" part. He's made NAFTA bashing part of his platform, largely to reach the Edwards style populists. Although he survived his earlier trade related scandal (his secret reassurances to Canada that his NAFTA bashing was just politics), it's telling that he mentioned "anti-trade" in his condescending diatribe. His working class rehetoric seems to be nothing but a smoke-screen.

Have you ever suffered from Male Economic Dysfunction?

Are you frustrated because economic conditions in your small town have not improved?

Do you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night with a bible in one hand and a gun in the other?

Have you found yourself irrationally lashing out at recent immigrants just because they don't look like you?

Have you soured on the idea of free-trade?

Well, you are not alone! You, and millions like you, suffer from a condition known as
