Chair intended for scholar who studies conservatism and It's about Bloody time.

The town is often ridiculed by the political Right as “the People’s Republic of Boulder.”

How liberal is the University of Colorado at Boulder? The campus hot-dog stand sells tofu wieners. A recent pro-marijuana rally drew a crowd of 10,000, roughly a third the size of the student body.

At Boulder, the notion of a chair in conservative thought had kicked around campus for a decade. Then, in 2005, the college was thrust into a debate over an essay by ethnic-studies professor Ward Churchill, who argued that the bankers killed in the Twin Towers on Sept. 11 were legitimate military targets because they were "little Eichmanns" who "formed a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire"...Cook with a capital K.

National surveys have repeatedly shown that liberals dominate faculties at most four-year colleges.

To counter-balance the huge difference between righties and lefties on the faculty, the University of Colorado has come up with a brilliant idea, hire a few Conservatives....Hey McCain you listening?

Liberal nitpickers say its a bad idea....One student laments, "Bring back the hippy's and Boulder will be all right again. Bring in the neocons and keep the femdroids in power and Boulder will be another disgusting unpatriotic wasteland with nasty looking rude drug addicts everywhere."
......To Late.....or is it Two Latte. (sorry..that joke was Zugzwang)

CU officials want to create an endowment for a Visiting Chair in Conservative Thought and Policy. A $9 million program to bring high-profile conservatives to teach on the left-leaning campus. The first Righty could be on campus next year for a one or two year stint. University officials said they hope the fund would yield the $200,000-plus per year necessary to provide a stipend and a staff person......Who should I make my check out to?

Scholars, historians, politicians and media personalities from the Right side of the aisle would be in the Rotation.

Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson surveys his college that champions diversity. He believes that students must think beyond courses in Bush's Incompetence and Lies, Gay literature, Feminist theory. They even have language classes in Farsi and Indonesian. Suffice to say, in this liberal fortress of left-wing thought, a right-wing professor could also teach "minority studies."

The Idea has been greeted with protests from some faculty and students, who say the move is too....well...radical.

The most vocal criticism so far is coming from the right.

David Horowitz, a conservative author whose book "The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America" includes two Boulder faculty members. An associate professor of ethnic studies who writes about the intersection of Chicano and lesbian issues....Holy Mackerel....and a philosophy professor focused on feminist politics and "global gender justice"....Sounds like a fun date...maybe some Italian food.....but I digress.....

While he thinks its a good idea to bolster a conservative presence on campus, Mr. Horowitz fears that setting up a token right-winger as 'The Conservative' at Boulder will brand the person as a curiosity, like "animals in the zoo."

The list includes big names like Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, columnist George Will and Philip Zelikow, who chaired the 9/11 Commission...that my friends would be Epic.

How much does one Conservative teacher close the gap

A tally of voter registration records of faculty and administrators makes it clear.

Of the 825 faculty members in arts and sciences, business, education, journalism and law, only 23 are registered Republicans.

One faculty member said he found the idea of an endowed chair in conservative views “humorous”. Why the big announcement?...Why not just go out and hire Conservative teachers without the fanfare.

Many pundits are reminded of the Twilight Zone episode where Roddy McDowell crash lands on another planet and is placed in a cage in the shape of a house, in a zoo like setting, for the planets residents to observe other species in their natural habitat.

CU has economics professors, business professors, foreign affairs professors. They mostly hide in the closet because when they speak at public forums, there are a host of commie students who want to argue topics in which they have zero knowledge. .....And those students love to come to Redstate and get weak names like 'prismsinc'....but lets Move On.

So the professors teach students who want to learn and avoid the rest. The leftist students who major in Basket weaving and 13th century poetry end up waiting tables and as 'Cooks' and taxi drivers , while the Righty students go on to run companies and the country.

They have been indoctrinating our kids for 40 years and it hasn't worked, it doesn't stick.

Once Junior wakes up from his 4 year smoke filled haze, gets a job, has a family, some responsibilities, they quickly sober up and see the light.

"Why are all these useless leaches always grabbing at my wallet?"

"Can't they take care of themselves!"......It's a wondrous thing to witness.

Open thread for Slackers who don't want to make their own.

...is what, in the eyes of UC-Boulder, constitutes a conservative? I mean, there's a veritable gulf between Pat Buchanan and a Goldwater Republican. What do they get, and is there not the possibility of marginalization through this?

Also, what if a person is right of center, but doesn't use the "conservative" label? Just as an example, I'd be considered politically conservative by most, but, as I've said time and time again, I call myself a liberal (which is what I am... well, in the classical sense, at least). Granted, I'm still only a grad student, so I'm not in a position to hold said chair anytime soon, but the point stands.

I agree...Who are the Deciders?...(love that word)

Who gets to pick The Mid Mods who will take the chair?

I could do it...0.12 -0.26

"Yup he's a Mid Mod.."

Creating a Visiting Chair in Conservative Thought and Policy--with a big Paul Revere announcement--will also create another permanent butt-park for Protest majors, with the attendant classroom disruptions and door-chainings.

The Chair will be withdrawn after two semesters because "it is too disruptive to campus harmony", and no sane conservative will want to go into the cage while the monkeys on the outside fling feces at him.

The Detroit Piston- 2004 nba champions (and soon to be 2007 champs:)

Photobucket The trouble with our friend John McCain isn't that he's ignorant, but that he knows so much that isn't so.

Dont worry...The Pistons by speciallist

Can always listen to the finals on the radio...down by that big lake you got there

their talent. I obviously would root for the Celtics & Bird but really had respect for the entire Lakers team. Both groups were 'teams' in the true sense of the word! When they met you were guaranteed a 100% effort! Those guys left it all on the court, everytime!!

Ahh! The good ole days!!!! (LOL)

That loss against Boston is all the Big D needed against the Big 3. Tonights game is epic-Boston may stop Lebron, but only the Pistons can contain Kobe. All hail Jordan's heir to the throne.

Detriot needed Game 1 by Illinicon

Boston was coming off a brutal game 7 with Cleveland and only had a 24 hour period to recoup from it. That was Detriot's chance to win one in Boston and they blew it.

McCain '08

Detroit needs tomorrow's game. If its 1-1 and goes to the D for 3 games, Boston looks at the fact they haven't won on the road and now have to try and win 3 in Detroit. If its up to that-it might not get back to Boston. Detroit hadn't played in a week, and last night was the kick in the butt they needed.

BASKETBALL!!!! Now let's see the team with the worst road record in the playoffs come into the Palace.
