KS - 02: Jim Ryun Now Has Competition

According to Yesterday's Topeka Capital Journal, Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins has confirmed months of speculation and officially entered the race for Kansas' 2nd District.
Earlier this week, Jenkins filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission that will allow her to begin accepting contributions. While she can still bow out if fundraising doesn't go well, all signs point to a primary showdown between Ryun and Jenkins as it would appear both will stay in the race.
Conveniently, Jenkins waited until right after the 1st quarter filing deadline to declare her candidacy, allowing her to raise the bulk of her campaign's money before the next mid-summer report. In doing so, Jenkins will be able to re-capture the momentum that Ryun is sure to gain when 1st quarter reports are made public on April 15th.
That said, it will be absolutely essential for Jenkins to post solid donor numbers right off the bat. If she doesn't, you can bet that Ryun will.
Also affected by Jenkins' filing are the other two candidates, Lee Tafanelli and Derek Schmidt. Both are moderates and are likely to stay out of the race with Jenkins - the more prominent moderate - officially in.
Stay tuned as www.stayredkansas.com will follow this one through the '08 general.
My mom's maiden name is Jenkins (hah, good luck with the identity theft thing, my credit stinks) and I haven't heard a thing about this! Time for a phone call to the "What's Wrong With..." state.
Mom's a strong Democrat working in Topeka to try to keep a balance in that state, and our family is split down the middle (some of 'em are missionaries), so it should make for an interesting phone call.

Give a man a match, and he'll be warm for a minute.
But set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
I'm surprised that the Club for Growth hasn't endorsed him yet.
are you supporting Jim or Jenkins? I cannot imagine that you want to replace Jim. It has been my understanding that he's a staunch conservative.
Club for Growth has essentially endorsed Jim. It's no surprise given his proven conservative record. They've purchased a massive amount of anti-Boyda funding, and have cast their support to Jim. We'll know for sure when finance reports are filed, but it's a safe bet they'll be ready to back Ryun.
We have no desire to replace Jim - simply to replace Boyda. Jim could definitely beat Boyda, but Jenkins definitely would. Time will tell with fundraising numbers who will be best.
I liked the way Jim Ryan voted very much, but unfortunately he lost last time, and I fear that if he is the nominee again the same result could happen. Perhaps we might need to accept someone more moderate like Jenkins to re-capture the seat?

Keep up the great state level work. Hope we see more of this.
