My Drama with Obama: He Cannot and Will Not Unite America

I do not like Barack Obama. I'm a Republican, so that might be expected, but my animus goes beyond my dislike of his policies. My feelings about him are rather personal. I am annoyed by him because of the way he has campaigned and what he pretends to be.

At the end of the day, after "Born in the USA" has quit playing on the loudspeaker, after the stump speech is over, and after all the supporters have left; candidates go drink a beer and use the bathroom just like everyone else . They are not heroes, nor saints, saviors, or ideological masterminds. They are human beings with characteristics, faults, and biases. Most of the time, they are charismatic but terribly ruthless individuals who will do just about anything to get into power.

Barack is no different. He tells everyone what they want to hear when they want to hear it. He tells Americans that we can all be united and that we can be one people. United, of course, under his presidency, his idelogy, and his party. In short, Barack's idea of unity and the big message of his campaign has been: "Unity through me or division through the others".

Simply put, his message is false because he cannot unify America. Yet, because of his racial background, that his mother was white and his father was a Black man from Kenya; he was literally born to play the role of the societal savior. Add to his innate abilities, the general atmospehre of Bush fatigue in this country. America is tired of division and secrecy. In a divided country, unity sells and Barack is the perfect man to sell it and sell it he does.

This message of unity and its implication, that only he can unify America, is possibly the most arrogant, preposterous, disingenous, and unlikely claim I have ever seen in American politics. It is even more so when you consider that Obama has the most liberal voting record of any sitting Senator. How can someone so liberal, and so extreme unfiy anything? Mark my words, if he is President of this country, he will be the President of a country as deeply divided as it is today. For every person who hates Bush now, there will be a person who hates Barack Obama...and I will be one of them.

In this race, there is only one man who has consistently voted his conscience, often against his party and worked with Democrats to pass legislation. There is only one real uniter and that man is John McCain. McCain has probably ticked off more Republicans through his voting record than any other Republican. He has a proven track record of working with both sides to get things done. Yet he does not claim to be a "uniter" because he does not have to. He simply is, and actions speak far louder than words.

The last person running for President who claimed to be a "uniter and not a divider" was a Governor from Texas named George W. Bush and regardless of what you think of his Presidency, I think it is clear he was not a uniter. Obama will not unite Amerca. Through his policies and arrogance, he will divide it. If you vote for Obama because you want a uniter, then you have only yourself to blame when this country is just as divided in 2012 as it is today.
