The Most Daring Liars

What does it take to be a lying Democrat? Oh, I know what you are thinking, "but I repeat myself," and hey, I'm with you. What I'm talking about, though, is what exactly does it take to be called one? What to you have to say, as a Democrat, to get even Bill O'Reilly to say you lied, not misspoke?
Let's check the record. We've got ...
(click to reveal)
Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick.
Gary Hart and Donna Rice.
Bill Clinton and is.
Al Franken and stealing from children.
John Kerry and being a human.
Jimmy Carter and still being alive. (Even if you skipped the rest, click this one.)
Now we've got Obama and Wright. We've got Clinton (the Mrs.) and her phantom snipers. In case anyone has forgotten about the loudest most obnoxious ranting about politics EVER, Democrats LOOOVE calling people liars.
There's no point in even remarking on Obama; as you can see the New York Times resorted to quoting me in order to find someone calling him a liar! (Ok, I admit, that was a great move on their part.)
But Hillary's saga is amazing. Could there be a more clear-cut case of lying? Yet the term misspoke rules the airwaves, from Good Morning America to The O'Reilly Factor! The Today Show couldn't bring themselves to say liar. The Early Show on CBS came close with the comment "Pinnochio Syndrome", but just couldn't get there.
The blog results are a little more mixed. At The Caucus Blog from the New York Times you have to go to comments to find an instance of the word lie. Same story at AOL's Political Machine, although the stories come very close. Let's not get into Kos, I hate linking there; suffice it to say there are differing opinions in their diaries. Incredibly, the reprehensible and creepily PrObama Americablog (NSFW) can't call her a liar enough.
In sum with newspapers and television, though, you'll find the word misspoke ubiquitous and the word lie sparing. The narrative is forming, and it says "misspoke". The blogs waffle now, but I wonder what they'll say a year from now.
Like you, I've seen the guilty moments dozens of times, on youtube videos and on the news. Misspoke? I know a "war story" when I see one. She lied. And it's not the first time. Who are you named after, Hillary?
There's no way she simply got mixed up. This was a description of an event that never occured. Could you honestly mix up being told about being shot at and actually being shot at? I know I couldn't. Could you mix up "no ceremony" with "they moved the ceremony"? I couldn't. She didn't merely exaggerate a threat, she described literal events that never occurred. I know a word that perfectly describes such an act: LIE.
Hillary lied about Bosnia.
What does it take to be called a liar if you are a democrat? Lying won't cut it. Being caught lying won't do the job. Being exposed as a liar on the vaunted youtube won't do the job. After Whitewater, Rezko, Wright, Sir Edmund, and Bosnia, I'm not convinced that anything hits the mark.
I agree completely but your music selection made me laugh so hard when it suddenly started playing that there was a soda/nose incident. If you feel the waft of a tiny fist shaking in your general direction, that's me.
"What does it take to be called a liar if you are a democrat? Lying won't cut it. Being caught lying won't do the job. Being exposed as a liar on the vaunted youtube won't do the job. After Whitewater, Rezko, Wright, Sir Edmund, and Bosnia, I'm not convinced that anything hits the mark."
My only guess: Agreeing with a Republican.

on his show and he won't really take on Obama either for the exact same reason...O'Reilly has no shame and has become full of "spin"....he is really looking out for himself.

about Bill O'Liely. Back in the day, when he was a cub reporter trying to make a name for himself as Mr. Macho, he was really big on trashing the military acquisition system. There is a lot there to trash,so he showed some saavy economic thinking by going to where the garbage was, but the last thing we need is another Patricia Schroeder to "look out for us."

He's really started wussing about being seen as partisan. He relishes the opportunity to say "look how fair I was with Hillary"
Tsk. Shame. Not a stellar pundit but he's a good and entertaining opinion reporter.

After a weekend of NCAAmens and last night with NCAAwomens, watching Memphis, Tenn men and then Tenn women whup up everyone, my eyes are tired....
As to the chance that Al will come to the Dems rescue, let us consider this.
Hillary and Obama are like a pair of tigers in a cage. Cutting, drawing blood, not one willing or able to quit. Howard Dean sits idly by in his tall chair, waiting for the chance to be THE ONE again, Pelosi and her other Congressional cohort, pleading Be Nice, Now...and the Left Dems screaming for blood from the stands.
The Summer of 08 draws on to August, with the Super Delegates, the Smokers of the DNC all waiting to see who will emerge, cut, bloody but still standing.....No winner in sight, August is upon us.
ENTER BIG AL......Green Horse, Cap and trade Al. Offers up his selfless image of savior, the stands go wild. The Left Dems have a savior at hand. Geo Soros opens his wallet, the Congressional Dems swallow hard, the Super Delegates smile and the August Convention is on....Speech AL Speech Al
However, the Clintons are not finished nor is Obama. Cut and bruised, dead on thier feet, they rise once again. Old Bill says Out of my dead cold hand , will they take the election from Hillary. Obamas minions, money (whats left), rise to the occasion. The fight is on.....
Al has only his Greenies, Geo Soros, and the opportunity.
Hillary has her committed, Bill, owed Debts, guts and her desire.
Obama has the Left, money, committeds, the "young and impressionable" and Ms O.
Now who will win, Who will be the nominee. ?
My bet is:
NOT Al... Bill and Hillary have too much on him, the DNC Dems owe Bill too much.
NOT Obama.... He has too much divisive baggage and the DNC Dems, although they play footsie with the Left, are not about to sell thier souls to Code Pink.
HILARY WINS, bloody, but unbowed. Off to the Fall Campaign, after a rest in the hot sun of her beloved Florida....
Only to LOSE to our man McCain.

It can only be used in the KnownFact phrase "Bush lied, people died," or in its approved shorthand "Bushlied." Thought everyone knew that.
But its a little surprising when it pops up while you are talking to people. Definitely needs a work warning. Breaks the illusion that you are paying attention to people that you aren't

Certainly we could trade lists of liars. However my point was not that people lie. My point was that people lie, but Democrats are handled with kid gloves when they do. Unlike Republicans, who are mercilessly pummeled ad nauseum.
I chose my particular selections for their humorous impact as a list, and because of the availability of imagery.

"If we want to take this party back, and I think we can someday, let’s get to work." – Barry Goldwater
Rudy lied to his wife by having an affair.
Scooty Libby, while we may disagree with the verdict, was convicted in a court of law. That is a fact.
Ted Stevens is under investigation by the FBI and state for political corruption. Even Alaska Republicans are telling the media they believe he is guilty of some of the charges involving bribery and graft.
My point was that we shouldn't just throw stones at the Dems. If conservatives want to reclaim Congress and the White House, we need to reclaim our integrity. The Republican party brand has been tarnished by a continuing string of scandals, most real not imagined (Foley, Craig, Vitter being the most obvious). We need to clean house and clean up our act. That was my point.

Marriage, at least according to my Christian beliefs, is a covenant, a legal and spiritual bond formed before God. Cheating on a spouse is a lie in many ways. It is a lie before God, a life before one's community, a lie to a wife or husband, and a lie to ones self. And cheating requires being deceitful. Often those who commit marital infidelity lie repeatedly to spouses about their whereabouts, their activities, how they spend there time, who they spend their time with... Infidelity is a string of lies.
"The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men."

Bear false witness ? We can hit the big ten or go through all the 600+(depends on how old testament you are feeling). You may or may not agree but the intent is key.
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."

you don't murder, you don't steal, you don't lie, you don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't **** into the wind....
Infidelity is a lie. It goes to character.
I completely understand the hard line on these. I just have known too many people in really bad marriages to take it anymore.
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777
that bad marriages are somehow still sanctioned by God. What the Bible calls "marrying and giving into marriage" really doesn't mean licenses from the state and it definitely doesn't mean to say that a wife should submit to a fool any more than a man should.
By bad marriage I mean one where third parties are making book on when the homicide will occur.
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777
The whole fallacy of the "open relationship" idea is that it's impossible to make it fair to both partners and it definitely doesn't reconcile natural human emotions.
that Luke's account of the Crucifixion and Resurrection say that everyone kept the Sabbath the day before the Resurrection. Of course it's also true that Jesus is our sabbath and our rest so it's really not something people should argue too zealously.
I am already debating theology with a warmer.
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777
My point was conservatives need to clean our own house and return to the Reagan era of honor and integrity.
"The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men."

I love it when a lie is called a lie. The NYT picked the perfect column to quote.
HOWEVER, as much as it pains me, I want to put in a word in the Hill-person's defense.
Although she is showing herself to be an inept campaigner, we all know she isn't stupid. At least I don't think she is. Anyway, assuming she is modestly intelligent, one is forced to conclude that she couldn't possibly have thought she could get away with that story.
So, why tell it? It doesn't make sense to conclude that she wanted to get caught, because there's nothing to gain from that.
I think that leaves only one option--she thought she was telling the truth. It is possible, in at least two ways.
First and probably most likely, Robert Novak suggested last night that it's likely she has told that story in private so many times that her memory has changed. She embellished it a bit each time, perhaps without realizing it. At this point in time, she does remember it the way she told it, resulting in her being caught in an impossible story.
There is even evidence that this might be the case, because in her book that she keeps saying "I wrote about it in my book," the story is basically just like the other observers say it was. No ducking to run into a hangar, no sniper fire. I might add that although it is true that if you've been shot at that you don't forget it (I sure haven't), but if you haven't been, it is probably not that hard to acquire a false memory of having the experience.
The other possibility is that she is remembering another incident, but that's highly unlikely, given that it most certainly would have been widely reported after the trip.
Given the several possibilities, Novak's analysis seems to be the only one that makes any sense at all. That, or she's suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's Disease or a brain tumor. Seriously.
"An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.“--Jeff Cooper. From Bill Coffey's collection of military quotations
it will be impossible for anyone to get away with a lie on this level because there will be video evidence of everything a candidate has done over a career.
Dang! Here I thought I was saying that I didn't think she was intentionally lying. But maybe I'm just too gullible.
"An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.“--Jeff Cooper. From Bill Coffey's collection of military quotations
telling a lie over and over for 12 years and writing it in a book doesn't transform a lie into a "mispeak"
She lied so much that it became easier and didn't have to consciously say to herself, "now I am going to lie. I must be caeful to tell it the same way I did the last 400 times I told it."

Yes, a lie is a lie, but I think Hill is right now a victim of human psychology. I just can't yet believe she'd knowingly tell that lie, right now, in public. That's why a brain tumor is also a credible answer.
As for Richardson, doesn't the beard look nice? Ready for a spaghetti western. Bad guy or comic sidekick, of course.

GC, here's what you said once before: "To BE an elected Democrat leader in DC whose lips move is to lie."
And Achance wrote:
Democrats deny the existence of objective truth both in philosophical terms and in political terms. Since there is no objective truth, you can create whatever "reality" serves your purposes, since reality is, by their lights, simply a matter of individual perception. That is why we mere mortals are so often astounded by what we consider their hypocrisy, and they simply stare at us wondering what we're so upset about; "truth" is what they say it is, and "truth" today has nothing to do with what they might style "truth" tomorrow.

Surely 'lie' is such a strong word. Don't you think that what she did was more in the line of an embellishment? A self-serving embellishment, mis-remembering the order and placement of events that occurred and conflating them with ones which she only wishes to have occurred. A self-serving precalculated embellishment in which she did not believe she would be contradicted by others armed with proof of the facts.
OK, so have it your way, she lied. But we must forgive her a bit of fabulism. She's under a lot of stress (it is tax time, you know).
