In HinzSight, McCain can earn the votes of conservatives

Lawyer gamecock rarely uses the word "deserve".

From the perspective of a Bible-believing Baptist, original and copycat sin makes all of humanity (less one named Jesus Christ) "deserve" eternal damnation, (apologies to the fragile liberals that prefer blunt truths couched in equivocal terms, but don't panic all ye NameLA's, this is not a religious blog), but I digress.

I usually reserve use of the "d" word for fruits of labor owed under contracts.

But when it comes to John McCain, I agree with David Hinz that he deserves many accolades that are much too often passed around to moral midgets.

I speak of plaudits like HERO and patriot, but let the Rooster stop crowing so we can see it through Hinz spectacles:

Because he spent more than five years in a North Vietnamese Prison, tortured on an almost daily basis, John McCain deserves to be honored by the people of a grateful nation.

When offered an early release, because his father and grandfather were both high ranking Admirals, he refused. He knew that his early release would be used as a propaganda tool by our enemies, and so refused to be released before others who had been in captivity longer than he.

This act of courage alone warrants high praise and honors, to a man who still bears the scars and disfigurement inflicted by his brutal captors.

John McCain deserves to be honored for his many years of service to his country as a member of Congress. The people of Arizona, by dint of the election process, have seen fit to return him to Congress, by huge majorities, believing that he, better than anyone else, represents their state's interests in that body.

As a member of Congress he has passionately fought for those issues on which he is most deeply concerned; sometimes angering and engendering passions on both sides of the aisle.

As a Presidential Candidate, John McCain deserves his Party's nomination. Through a spirited primary season, he has defeated all challengers. His campaign appeared at one time to be stalled, and he was written off as dead as a candidate.

Instead of rolling over and giving up, he was able to garner support from moderates and independents in early states, accumulating momentum and delegates. In what has often become a bitter and sometimes ugly brawl among supporters of various candidates, he has steadfastly maintained a positive campaign, determined to discuss issues and not personalities.

And there is the issue. Based upon issues, John McCain does not deserve to be President. He must earn that position. No candidate, of either Party automatically deserved to become President, because they are next in line, or it is their Party's turn. No candidate of either Party deserves to become President, simply because the other Party is fielding a candidate who is unacceptable. The Presidency needs to be earned, based upon the merits of that candidate.

Defenses stated figuring him out last year.
I pick SC in the east, and Auburn in the west, with Auburn winning the title. LSU will have to rebuild, but Alabama and Georgia will be strong again.

I really only watch Big twelve and SEC college ball, except for an occasional fun game like the service acadamies.

I hate the pac ten, and those wussies the big ten.

none of the other Big Twelve would last in an SEC schedule.

Don't get me wrong, I watch Texas play every time. I love Texas almost as much as my alma matter LSU. But the big twelve has been down in the last two years.

look at who you have to play every year in the SEC,

Florida
LSU
Georgia
Tennessee
Auburn
Alabama
Arkansas
South Carolina
perennial top twenty, if not top ten teams
even the lower ranking schools sometimes field great teams.

Any team can get "up" for a big game, but in the SEC you might have four such games in a row, and it take it's toll.

Unfortunately the dipwads in the NCAA have decided that the BCS should stay, so we'll continue to miss out on seeing who truly is the best. A Tiger/Tiger championship game last January would have been far more indicative than the ridiculous bowl lineup that occurred.

there would be so much more money and prestige since all of the BCS games would count for the national title.

We had a Tiger/Gamecock Bowl Game a couple of years ago that was a second-half blowout in favor to the team from Columbia of the West.

The way we neutralized McFadden in the Cotton Bowl was a complete turn-around from the Oklahoma game. More fun than I'd had since January of 1970. How do things look for the coming season?

I've got a diary I'm working on now about a new conservatism, where I will be focusing my talents at RS. I'm sick of the NewTone, and McCain is pandering to La Raza, he's pandering in New Orleans, and he's going to be 4-8 years full of ineptitude and NewTone. Too bad-I'm going to be voting in the swing state of Michigan, and I'll be voting for Paul if he's still on the ballot.

My life has been largely defined by MLK's dream, and I have also concluded that the only hope for America is that as our character as a people is tested by tough times born of 30 years of leftist prevention of oil drilling, etc, it will be We the people, and no president that determines our fate.

I honestly don't know if I will be able to stomach a pander to a racist group.

Pragmatism may dictate that I still fill the job with the least worse.

as for now

I pick GA preseason No.1 (the whole package from first appearances), Florida preseason No. 4 (defensive secondary still a question mark) and LSU preseason No. 10 (would have been 8 with Perriloux). SC should be about 15th...if they actually have a quarterback who isn't in jail or out drinking nights.

Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee should all be ranked. Maybe Miss State, too. There ain't no doubt about which conference is best.

Oh...and Heisman race will be between Moreno, Harvin and Tebow.
