By Moe Lane

Of course, when you have somebody like Cokie Roberts handing you softballs like this, you almost gotta swing at 'em:

COKIE ROBERTS: I don't think that it's good for the Democratic Party to have two liberal Senators from states that are going to go Democratic anyway. I mean, he needs a Bible-thumping, gun-owning, white guy from a swing state. I mean, maybe that's who the party should have nominated.

SAM DONALDSON: You mean, in other words, somebody who disagrees with him on all the issues.

Thanks to Constant Reader Jaded.

You said it, Sam. For that matter, and oddly enough: you too, Cokie.

By dld1717

State Sen. Kay Hagan begins the general election campaign for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole's seat virtually tied with the incumbent, according to the latest WRAL News poll.

Hagan, a Democrat from Greensboro, drew support of 48 percent of the 500 likely voters surveyed, and Dole, a Republican, garnered 47 percent.

A month ago, Dole led Hagan by 13 points in a hypothetical match up.
Voters reported they had good impressions of both candidates: Dole had a 56-percent and Hagan, a 53-percent favorable rating.

Because if the question/response to this isn't part of their entrance interview, it should be:

Asked why he ordered two escorts, Ralph said he thought it was the thing to do when you win a "World of Warcraft" tournament. They told the suspicious working girls they were people of restricted growth working with a traveling circus, and as State law does not allow those with disabilities to be discriminated against they had no right to refuse them.

Posted at 1:02pm on May 11, 2008 Objective Newsweek Story: Magnificent Young Hero Confronts Racist GOP Vermin

By DrJaysonFoster

The Mainstream Media's general election narrative has arrived. Courtesy of Richard Wolffe and Evan Thomas at Newsweek, we learn that Barack Obama is a noble, charming, brilliant, lovable statesman who is now bravely preparing to withstand the onslaught of the hateful (and racist) and vicious (and racist) and rotten (and racist) conservative slime machine.

And what will be wrought by these monsters who inhabit the furthest pits of hell: "The model is the notorious Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who unfairly but effectively questioned John Kerry's war record in 2004." Apparently, Newsweek has learned that the Republican degenerates intend to invoke again...facts.

By smagar

Hat tip to RealClearPolitics.

This article by Richard Wolffe and Evan Thomas on how Saint...er, Barack Obama plans to deal with the GOP Visigoths left me speechless.

Hey, we all loved that SNL skit on how much the media is in the tank for Obama...

But, that was over a month ago. And they're still writing pieces like THIS? The fawning tone of this piece, written by two of Newsweek's lead political reporters, made me wonder if I'd pulled up the Onion's website by mistake.

Posted at 9:52pm on May 10, 2008 The McCain Campaign & Media Bias: A Hopeful Sign.

By Martin A. Knight

Mark Salter's double barrel response to Senator Obama's oh-so-subtle shot at John McCain's age (very nicely brought to our attention by Soren here) is interesting for another thing - it brought up the behavior of Barack Obama's most important supporting demographic.

Senator Obama is hopeful that the media will continue to form a protective barrier around him, declaring serious limits to the questions, discussion and debate in this race.

Senator Obama has good reason to think this plan will succeed, as serious journalists have written of the need for 'de-tox' to cure 'swooning' over Senator Obama, and others have admitted to losing their objectivity while with him on the campaign trail ...

Maybe I'm reading too much into this and this would be the last time and therefore insignificant - but if I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the first time any Republican Presidential candidate in recent history has even just made mention of the Press clearly favoring one (the Democrat) candidate and slanting the coverage just so to get him over the finish line.

The media's infatuation with Obama is remarkably blatant - in many cases, e.g. Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, it's practically R-rated - and it's just about noticeable by the mushy middle both teams need to win.

If Salter's press release can be taken as indicative of a future course of action, the McCain campaign may just have found a way to solidify his standing with the conservative base and also make it more likely that he will get elected this fall.

If McCain, until recently liberal journalism's favorite Republican, decides to, and then successfully makes the conduct of the media an issue in this election, the potential fallout of it could be very ... interesting. In a good way.

Posted at 8:23pm on May 10, 2008 Bobby Jindal = Reaganesque

By Seth Kegley

I was sent a free copy of the new Townhall magazine and it has a column by Bobby Jindal and what he is doing in Louisiana. The guy oozes Reagan in terms of his view of the role of government. In fact, I think the title of the column was "Getting Government Out of the Way" or something to that effect. He is one of the few Republicans out there right now who are putting out the right and winning message for Republicans.

Posted at 4:27pm on May 10, 2008 In HinzSight, McCain can earn the votes of conservatives

By gamecock

Lawyer gamecock rarely uses the word "deserve".

From the perspective of a Bible-believing Baptist, original and copycat sin makes all of humanity (less one named Jesus Christ) "deserve" eternal damnation, (apologies to the fragile liberals that prefer blunt truths couched in equivocal terms, but don't panic all ye NameLA's, this is not a religious blog), but I digress.

I usually reserve use of the "d" word for fruits of labor owed under contracts.

Posted at 3:35pm on May 10, 2008 A Proven, Conservative, Republican for Congress

By Hal Valeche for Congress

While RedState has endorsed Tom Rooney in FL-16, we do recognize there are other good candidates there. One of them is Hal Valeche, who asked if we'd allow him to put up a note from him. We're happy to do so. -- Erick

Dear Red State,

I am running for Congress in Florida's 16th District, and I would like to take this effort to tell you why I feel I am the best candidate to defeat liberal Tim Mahoney.

Upon graduation from Yale in 1969, despite a knee injury that kept me out of the draft, I volunteered for the military and was accepted into the Navy Flight training program where I finished first in my class. I flew 85 combat missions over North Vietnam in the early 1970's, and was awarded 6 air medals for my service.

After my military career, I went to the Wharton School where I received an MBA in finance, and then worked as a successful investment banker in New York City. I met my wife Stephanie in New York, and we have been happily married for 18 years and have been blessed with one daughter, Claire, who is 9. Stephanie and I moved to south Florida in the early 1990's, where I continued my business career as a merger specialist for a public company, and then as an entrepreneur.

Posted at 2:13pm on May 10, 2008 Obama's Twenty-Five Trillion Dollar Gift To Osama

By DrJaysonFoster

Barack Obama has promised that he will withdraw American troops from Iraq within eighteen months of being elected president, thereby consigning that country to jihadist domination . In doing so, Obama will be transferring control of Iraq's energy resources from the Iraqi people to the terrorists who vow the destruction of America.

The current market value of Iraq's oil and natural gas fields is twenty-five trillion dollars, an amount larger than the American economy. Allowing this wealth to be confiscated by Al Qaida and its terrorist allies will provide them with the economic advantage needed to conduct a successful war against the United States. Twenty-five trillion dollars will buy all of the military and electronic equipment Osama bin Laden requires to wage a sophisticated international jihad that vanquishes the infidels.

I'll be on Fox to discuss the fun Democratic primary.

Posted at 9:32am on May 10, 2008 What really may affect my vote? [The David Duke thing was the mistake.]

By wrightdjohn

[Actually, I'm banning you because the David Duke thing was, as they say, indicative. Ciao. - Moe Lane]

Just so you know where I am coming from....

My view (not necessarily anyone elses although many of my republican friends feel the same way)
1. McCain is moderate maybe even moderately conservative.
2. McCain is a traitor to his party and a backstabber on major issues.
3. McCain prefers attacking fellow republicans to democrats.

Posted at 8:18am on May 10, 2008 Barack Obama, the Ultimate Feminist

By c17wife

For your Saturday morning reading pleasure.

Feminists sharply divided between Clinton, Obama
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080510/ap_on_el_pr/democrats_feminists

My favorite line out of the whole article is this one-

..."This pattern of old-style politics and adherence to un-feminist values is part and parcel of the campaign Hillary Clinton has run," Garfinkel wrote. "In this race, Barack Obama is the true feminist."...

Posted at 1:31am on May 10, 2008 Another Republican Special Election Congress Soon

By dld1717

Several top New York Republicans tell WNBC-TV that Rep. Vito Fossella's (R-NY) resignation will come very soon.

"There was political concern about how best to preserve the seat for the Republicans -- questions about immediate resignation versus finishing out his term and retiring -- but the calculation is there's nothing to be gained from Fossella sticking around. While Staten Island Republicans believe Fossella could at least serve out his term (the rest of the year) national Republicans want him gone. Now."
