Now you put up the open thread. I'm still digging the "Barry Superfly" Newsweek cover though. That is priceless.

Will Bob Casey help Obama in Penn...... by St. Louis Conservative

....as much as Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and Deval Patrick helped him in Massachusetts?

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

I think it will because he by swamp_yankee

I think it will because he doesnt need to win. He just needs to stop a popular vote landslide.

What's a "landslide"? by St. Louis Conservative

10 pts? 15 pts?

A 10 pt. win means Hillary picks up about 400,000 votes on Obama. If you count Florida and Michigan, she's ahead in the popular vote after that.

If I were wanting to win in Penn, I'd take Fast Eddie Rendell over Bob Casey Jr. any day of the week, plus she has Okinawa Jack Murtha too.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

Obama will have the students and the liberal yuppies as ususal. Hillary has the union vote. Casey Dems are the type most likely to support Hillary, so anything that dampens their enthusiasm or natural inclination to vote for Hillary is good for Obama.

That holds true for union voters.

DNC Destruction by Carl van Bushell

Your point is being argued by the Clinton side. They disdain the 'Richardsons' violating the will of the people in large states Obama was unable to win. They conclude there is no will of the people thus it must be up by the superdelegates. The Clinton front spits on smaller states in light of the few delegates they offer. And they demand Florida's results be recognized.

Anything more you can think of to create a more even playing field?

The DNC process is broken beyond repair. by St. Louis Conservative

Neither Hillary nor Obama is going to come out of the primary process with enough delegates. Everything from here on out is an attempt to woo superdelegates, and to be in a stronger position for the convention. While the media likes to proclaim Obama as the presumptive nominee, the fact is that he himself needs these superdelegates every bit as much as Clinton does.

It's a ruse to say that if Clinton gets the nomination, it will thwart the "will of the people". The will of the people was thwarted right from the get-go because the Democrats created superdelegates for that express purpose. The dirty little secret is that "pledged delegates" aren't really pledged, and if this thing goes to the convention, then all bets are off.

The only significance whatsoever that pledged delegates and popular vote totals have are that they influence the superdelegates. If Hillary passes Obama in the popular vote, she will use that as a tool to sway superdelegates.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

Delegates... by Carl van Bushell

Last week Sen Clinton said we must allow the votes to come in, let the people decide. This week she changed course and maintained delegates are not pledged to anyone. She is not going to overcome her popular vote deficit. DNC donors are threatening to cut off House funding if superdelegates vote the same way as pledged delegates.

HOUR 9 UPDATE

Current polling suggests she will win..... by St. Louis Conservative

.....4 of the next 5 primaries by a substantial margin. If that holds, she very well could lead in the popular vote, especially if you throw in Florida and Michigan.

It will not be Al Gore. Gore has significant problems. First, there is increasing scientific evidence against Gorebal Warming. Second, Gore has some fundraising scandals of his own during the Clinton years (e.g., fundraisers from Buddhist nuns. Then there is the problem of Gore bashing the USA in paid speeches abroad. Lastly, selecting Gore does not resolve the identity politics problem of female vs. black. So the compromise candidate is not Gore.

That being said, we can build a profile of a likely compromise candidate. First, the candidate would have to subscribe to the economic and foreign policy pronouncements of both of the present candidates. That is easily done, as many Congressional Democrats share the same worldview. The compromise candidate will also have to stanch the bleeding caused by the identity politics practiced by both Obama and Clinton camps. This would have to be done in two stages. First, to counteract the black vs. female battle, the compromise candidate would probably be a black woman. Secondly, the compromise candidate must have a record of backing the Clintons while they were in office but must also be able to reach out to the far left wing of the party. She must be "authentically" black to get support from the Sharpton-Wright subset of the black wing of the party. She must also be a proven fund-raiser from both domestic and foreign sources (just as the Clintons are master fund-raisers from foreign sources). The candidate I have in mind has no problem asking Saudi princes for money. This all points to one woman, and one woman only. The perfect compromise candidate for the Democratic Party would be.......Cynthia McKinney!

Important point here-
"I think it's a further demonstration of how weak the government's case has become. Of the four Marines who fired weapons that day only one still faces charges," Puckett said."

What say you now Jack-ass Murtha? Full apology?

Now maybe he and his family can get on with their lives and he can get his good name back for doing his job to protect this country.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/marines_haditha

a post on it but I tell you this is such good news. That these fine men had to be put through this political hit machine is beyond imagination.

This story is the reason that new media (internet) is the saving grace of our times....I do not think for a moment if this travesty had not been shown the light of day that these men would have been found guilty.

I know that some on this site find the word traiterous to be used lightly but I think for Jack Murtha it is dead on.

Is case you missed it, on Scarborough's show this morning, sidekick Willie Geist, as a pic of Obama was shown on screen, said that he looked "tanned and rested" as he returned from vacation. Possibly he means that Barry isn't authentically "black" enough?

"Two Empty Suits For the Price of One"

Gore just became very insulting when he spouted this nonsense to 60 Minutes.
If you're gonna pretend you're a scientist, at least have some basic junior high school understanding of the Scientific Method. If you seek to prove that Global Warming is anthropogenic, you have to prove that as the alternative hypothesis. The burden is on him to prove it. The reason why the Scientific Method works is that until you prove otherwise, you stick with the null hypothesis - that Global Warming is natural and not caused by mankind. This process has served us well.

His assertion destroys the process in that instead of having his side prove their alternative hypothesis, he just belittles those who stick up for the null. Essentially he's applying political tools and approaches to a scientific problem, thus politicizing the issue. This is like asking politicians to find a cure for AIDS or test new pharmaceuticals.

This is an important point in that those who advocate Global Warming criticize folks like Senator Inhofe for politicizing the issue. News flash: Global Warming was politicized when Algore decided to make this his consolation prize for losing the Presidency. Need more proof? Watch the famous "An Inconvenient Truth" if you can stomach it: I have and it is 50% Algore, 50% Global Warming, and 100% Bravo Sierra.

"Essentially he's applying political tools and approaches to a scientific problem, thus politicizing the issue. This is like asking politicians to find a cure for AIDS or test new pharmaceuticals."

No, its like asking the FDA to regulate pharmaceuticals.

"Global Warming is natural and not caused by mankind. This process has served us well."

You're kidding right?
I thought even the skeptics were starting to catch on. I guess the Actual SCIENTISTS from numerous scientific societies and academies who say "Global Warming is anthropogenic" are wrong.

Huh?

But your last is way behind the reality curve. The time for that alarmism is past....hence you, the Goracle, and others getting more and more shrill.

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777

We don't say that Global Warming is definitely not caused by mankind.

What we DO say is that it has not been PROVEN that Global Warming is caused by mankind.

The burden of proof is on those who say there is a non-natural effect.

Because models are key in proving this, the deck is (rightly) stacked against the pro-Global Warming crowd. I have a little experience with modelling myself. Anyone who builds models who doesn't believe the following quote is a dangerous person indeed:

"All models are wrong, but some are useful." - George Box

If this quote isn't at the top of mind of any scientist modelling the climate (or anything), then that is a real indicator of poor quality. Because any model can come out however you like it (see: Hockey Stick).

"Where is the audacity of hope when it comes to backing the success of our troops all the way to victory in Iraq? What we heard last night was the timidity of despair. - John McCain

Alright by rynodaug

I agree with being critical of everything, other wise we stop thinking and take all as religion. It just seems dangerous to be skeptical of global warming causes with so much science saying otherwise.

The core of science is experimentation to test theories that have the possibility of falsifying the theories, and in that, global warming theory is oh so lacking.

It's cargo cult science, as Richard Feynman coined the term. You have men in coats developing theories and publishing papers, going through all the motions of science except for what counts.

Racist comments? by ekevlar11

As racist as Jeremy Wright? You decide. The liberal bloggers think these comments are far more racist than Wright...hmm, personal responsibility comes to mind versus government handouts. I find Petersen's comments less disturbing in many aspects. However, one comment caught my view

About five years ago, in a debate before the National Association of Black Journalists, I stated that if whites were to just leave the United States and let blacks run the country, they would turn America into a ghetto within 10 years. The audience, shall we say, disagreed with me strongly. Now I have to disagree with me. I gave blacks too much credit. It took a mere three days for blacks to turn the Superdome and the convention center into ghettos, rampant with theft, rape and murder

Erik

But not in the same driveway. Both reverends have a warped way of looking at the world, and you will find people who will agree with both points of view (I've heard supporters in both cases, Wright and Peterson) say something to the effect of "Aside from the language, what about his main point is untrue?" You all know this of course, but Katrina did just affect black people, it more affected poor people, and there were more black poor in this city than of other races.

I suppose this article above is supposed to give Peterson some cover because "he's black and says these things," but misguided is misguided, whether its Peterson or Wright. Wright's comments will probably irritate whites more, and Peterson's comments will of course hurt blacks more. I wish both were a little less negative. You attract more flies with honey...
