And Some Of You Thought BUSH Was Bad?!?!?!

Wait'll you hear about CONGRESS!

No...this isn't another gnashing of teeth about the POTUS saga...this is MORE fun. Apparently George W. Bush now sucks LESS than the Congress who hates him so...and there's some modicum of hope buried in here worth giving a consider.

It's almost as if people can barely stand the thought of President Bush and Congress anymore. Bush reached his lowest approval rating in The Associated Press-Ipsos poll on Friday as only 30 percent said they like the job he is doing, including an all-time low in his support by Republicans. Congress' approval fell to just 22 percent, equaling its poorest grade in the survey. Both marks dropped by 4 percentage points since early January.

You know, I realize the point the author of this piece was headed towards...that [gasp, shock, awe] Bush Sucks!™, but if you give yourself just ONE more second to read the whole piece, we get to the abscessed root of this gnarly tooth that has become "American Governance"

Congress also hit 22 percent in October. It usually has lower ratings than the president because it is an institution people love to criticize. Many have negative views of Congress while still supporting their own House and Senate members.

Even so, its ratings are approaching its historic low in the Gallup Poll of 18 percent reached in early 1992 during a furor over lawmakers who bounced House bank checks. Only about one in five Democrats, Republicans and independents approve of Congress' work, with less than one in 20 from each group approving strongly.

"When I see them say they want to investigate Bill Belichick and Spygate, I say, 'Why do you want to investigate something like that when we have things we should address'" like the economy and health care, Mitch Dugger, 46, an independent from Mandeville, La., said.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., recently said the Senate Judiciary Committee may want to examine why the National Football League destroyed evidence in a scandal over cheating by Belichick, the New England Patriots' coach.

Indeed...

When everyone gets past this Primary nonsense...could we get serious about focusing on that over which we have MAXIMUM control? Could we get after figuring out how we're gonna fire all these bums up there on the Hill...please?

It will be hard if not impossible for any Republican president to pass reform of any kind over a hostile or unwilling Congress.

Of course, other polls had Congress break the single digits there for a few weeks. Don't remember who ran that poll though...

I won't vote for somebody on one part of the ticket. But I am ALL FOR regaining control of Congress at least. If not Both houses...

The irony here by Dan McLaughlin

is that with Congress' approval ratings reaching historic lows, both parties are nominating Senators for the White House.

and how can a responsible Congress ignore Paris Hilton?
The FISA bill can wait.

This statistical relationship has existed for a number of months.
Why hasn't the Republican leadership- ya know- led?
I would be pounding the snot out of Pinkie Pelossi and The Brain Reid all day everyday if I was in a leadership position. I would have mentioned this at the SOTU if I was writing for the Prez.
If I was McCain, I would make this a focal point of my criticism of the dhimmies and use it to grow coat tails.
The dhimmies ahve blown the war, they blew it for the wrong reason.
They have trashed the troops, trashed Americans in general, sought to jack up taxes, and managed to pass almost nothing at all.

Specter and Comcast by sturner

The only reason Specter is pushing this so hard is that Comcast has him in their backpocket. Comcast and the NFL have been at each others throats over the NFL Network.

It's tempting to look at the record low approval numbers of Congress and hold that up as evidence that Americans don't support their "liberal agenda". What you have to keep in mind is that when asked a support/oppose question about a Democratic politician, conservatives are going to answer "oppose" because the person is too liberal, and liberals are going to answer "oppose" because they don't think they're going far /enough/.

Ultimately all it means is that they're not doing what their constituents want. It says nothing at all about what those constituents would rather they be doing, or what their policy aims are.

Its gonna be hard to do. Of course the numbskulls up there don't do the base any favors. When The President decides to get up on his hindlegs and do something about earmarks. It turns out the whores we sent to DC decided to cut them off.

To define & demarcate the bums who need to be bounced! Then, as political reality is what it is, see which ones have a legitimate chance of being bounced. After that, get behind the good conservative candidate to spearhead the bouncing...

Here is where the faulty reasoning lies:

Some have suggested that congress has a very low approval due to the people's discontent with its "liberal" performance.

Catsy posted a brilliant comment explaining that much of this discontent is the American people's belief that Democrats are not going far enough; for example, the same more troops are now in Iraq than were there in November.

Rasmussen conducted a poll that found that 53% of Americans thought congress has not done “enough to change President Bush’s policies in Iraq.”

It's also worth noting that AP did not poll Democrats in congress and Republicans in congress separately. In all polls that separated the parties so far, Democrats have held the edge.

In the latest ABC/ Washington Post poll (early February), Democorats in congress were given a 39% approval, against 30% for Republicans.

How many self-describing Dems were polled versus self-describing Republicans?
How were the questions asked?
