Liberals Resort to Lies on SCHIP
Mitch McConnell Calls Them on It

Democrats and their liberal allies are so desperate to override President Bush's veto of SCHIP that they'll do just about anything. That includes spreading lies about the Republicans who stood on principle to oppose the $35-billion expansion that would cover adults, illegal aliens or families earning up to $83,000.
Today liberal group Americans United for Change came under fire for spreading misinformation about one Republican who has had enough.
Americans United for Change drew flack Wednesday from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for its ad that says the Kentucky Republican “sided with the big insurance companies” when he voted against the $35 billion expansion and reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Actually, America’s Health Insurance Plans, a trade group representing 1,300 insurance companies, supported the SCHIP reauthorization.
Brad Woodhouse, the group’s president, defended the ad when Politico asked about the inaccuracy.
The ad attacking McConnell is similar to the nearly two dozen that Americans United for Change is running against Republicans at the behest of liberals in Congress. Democrats need about 15 Republicans to switch their votes to override the veto. Many of them, notably Reps. Tim Walberg and Tom Feeney, are standing firm. But there's only so much the GOP can do when the opposition deliberately misleads.

I just can't take it anymore. The outright lies, smears, and distortions by the left wing groups and their allies in the media have completely drained me of any fight. No wonder nearly 70% of Americans opposed the President's veto of SCHIP - they're told complete and unmitigated LIES about the program, and there's not a thing we can do to stop them.
No matter how many times we counter their falsehoods, we simply do not have a wide enough audience to affect the debate. We're not only going up against an entire political party and their 527 co-horts, but also against an unfriendly media that dares not report the facts of the case. When it's a handful of Republican websites and conservative blogs against an entrenched infrastructure that includes CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, the Associated Press, Reuters, etc., that entrenched infrastructure will win EVERY TIME. I just don't know what the point of fighting is anymore.
This SCHIP fiasco has only served to be the last straw. I was born into a middle class family and underwent four open-heart surgeries and a barrage of invasive tests - all before my 17th birthday. My parents struggled and worked hard to pay my medical bills and make sure I was covered. There is no way they would have EVER considered having the government pick up the tab, despite the fact that they would have qualified for the benefits (my father was laid off during Clinton's military "restructuring" and, in order to keep his retirement, accepted a position for half the salary - needless to say, my family has a different view of Bill's "great economy").
When I turned 18 and went off to college, I got a job to make sure I could pay for my own health insurance. (I'm not saying any of this to pat myself on the back; after all, I still feel guilty accepting a government loan to pay a portion of my tuition, as I could not afford both the insurance and tuition payments). My point is that it is DIFFICULT, but DOABLE, for many people. SCHIP should exist to help the most needy CHILDREN, not the 25-year old college kids with the upper-middle class parents who, by that age, should be responsible enough to pay their own way.
It is absolutely disgusting how far we have fallen, and I honestly fear for our future as a country. I'm 28 now, and with each passing year, I become more pessimistic. I just don't see how we are going to dig ourselves out of this mess. In any case, I think I'll just take a break from politics at the moment, because I honestly can't take it anymore.
Godspeed to all of you still fighting; you have more strength than I do. I'll rejoin the fight during Primary time. Til then, I need a break!
Don't quit now...
...BECAUSE you fear for the future of our country. For example, terrorists would like us all to believe they have vast reservoirs of people and resources, but they are morally bankrupt and near collapse. So are the libs.
SO - just like in Iraq, do not quit now. Some R and R is just fine, however. See you soon.

...VERY slim at best. Also, I was told that slim left town.
