Tom Cole Is Doing Something. Just Not Winning.

Doesn't Tom Cole have better things to do? Like winning?

The head of the NRCC is seeking a Congressional apology to Indians for their treatment by the white man.

Cole offered his proposed apology as an amendment to H.R. 1328, the "Indian Health Care Improvement Act Amendments of 2007." That multibillion-dollar proposal, introduced by Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) and 57 other members, has not been scheduled for a vote yet.

I will reprint the entire amendment here because it's a fascinating, and noteworthy, proposal. I will point out that Cole specifically states that nothing in the amendment authorizes reparations to Native Americans from the U.S. government.

Can we further amend the legislation to apologize to the American people for the deaths of all the children due to Roe vs. Wade?

Can we also get an amendment from Tom Cole apologizing for his crummy handling of the NRCC?

How about an amendment letting me gamble at Indian Casinos with free room and board? Hey, I'll contribute some reparations at the blackjack tables?

This is pathetic.

....I suspect it has something to do with the fact that Oklahoma has a large number of American Indians, including probably Cole's district. Also, Cole himself is native American.

than pander? Close the reservations, or maybe turn them into social clubs, and have done with it. This nation-apart stuff is utter nonsense.

Cole has some questions to answer I guess.... sad to see this move by him.

On an unrelated note... the link for this story is to politico....

on their list of favorite blogs is BOTH this place and DailyKOS.

That's just an odd combination to keep on your favorites list.

Dependence is Slavery.

He could be trying to come up with more social programs to out-dem the Dems, like he was pushing on the NRCC blog last month.

I wonder if they ever read any of the hundreds of comments on that one?

I know you're kidding...but....

I wonder if they ever read any of the hundreds of comments on that one?

Are you kidding?

Dear Tom Cole, You are Fired by Marcus Traianus

We hear all day long about the do-nothing Congress. Perhaps you are just caught up in the excitement?

No worries, we have hard working, principled people such as Paul Ryan to take your place. Step aside.

By the way and just for context, you won't find a more staunch supporter of Native Americans than me.

Better this than his vote to override the farm bill veto.

Oh to be Emperor for a week.

CongressCritter™: Never have so few felt like they were owed so much by so many for so little.

The Dems messed up and didn't print all the bill the first time 100 Republicans voted to override Bush's veto of the 300 Billion Dollar travesty known as the Farm bill...so they had to revote on the bill!

when it was resent to Bush, he once again vetoed it giving Republicans who did the wrong thing the first time the chance to correct their error!

Want to put any money on what the Republicans in Congress did with the second chance?

It's law once again with the help of our Republicrat Leaders in the Republican Party!

That just about says it all!

I'm sure it's too late to mount a primary challenge this year, but there has got to be some young republican gun in Cole's district eager to move up. They feel safe becuase they know we'll never support a Dem. Like Gilchrist, we need to make an example out of a few of these clowns every two years.

Cole's Amendments by PoliFanatic

If any of you had an idea of what was going on with this bill right now, you wouldn't be so critical of Cole.

1. The Pro-Life Caucus wants the Hyde Amendment language in the bill. This part of the government health care system is the ONLY part without pro-life protections.

2. Pelosi wants to put it under suspension, which guarantees it's failure, and ultimately ensures IHS remains without Hyde protections.

3. Cole published 4 amendments.

4. As best I can tell, the Indian Apology, and the Methamphetamine ones are BOTH already IN the Senate bill.

5. The Indian Apology Amendment is a bill, originally written by Jo Ann Davis, and now sponsored by Rep. Boren (D-OK). BROWNBACK wrote this on the Senate side, and inserted it in the senate bill.

I am not sure what his strategy is, but it is extremely unusual to print an amendment in the record BEFORE Rules has requested amendments.

This is some kind of shot across the bow on Pelosi. It has to be.

But anyways, go ahead, assume the worst. Just remember printing an amendment means virtually nothing.

My next question would be: why isn't Cole out there claiming credit for this?

Pitts still has his Hyde Amendment language out there. I wonder if he is going to print it too?
