An almost ideal Fred Thompson campaign commercial

Well, here's the Fred Thompson campaign commercial for which we've all been waiting. The music is pretty bad, otherwise it would be ideal. And there's still time for Fred to use this gem:

...were all stolen from the Chuck Norris facts. I don't care. Still funny.
Plus, criminals SHOULD lock their doors when Fred goes outside. After all, he has several guns and he's not telling you where they are.
Obviously, the whole idea (Fred Facts) was stolen from the Chuck Norris facts, though.
And laugh-out-loud funny!

You mean a Fred supporter stole good idea's from the Huck campaign? NO WAY!!
You don't like head banging rock --- gee I thought is was almost as catchy as a show tune.
I know the beginning is Stone Cold Steve Austin's old wrestling theme, and the rest is from wrestling too.
The rest is actually the remake of the theme that Disturbed did a couple of years ago. I know, I know! I just outted myself as a closet wrestling fan.
(funny if they were spoofed off of chuck norris stuff).
This type of thing was funny the first time around. Now it's played out.
If Fred ever adopts that commercial as his own, I will vote for him for that reason alone.
I wish it would be part of the GOP platform next year.

I'm glad this blog is now officially supporting that Fred Thompson try to win the support of the stoners who hang out in thrift stores and alternative record stores from sea to shining sea. I mean, the ad does a terrible disservice to Thompson but even more amazingly it tells me just how unhinged and desparate the Thompson supporters here actually are.
I think that ad might might be the cause of Fred Thompson folding his campaign completely, which is why I hope he'll take your advice and start broadcasting it. He'll manage to scare the holy living daylights out of everyone that he hasn't so far put to sleep.
No way to win, fellas.
Relax.
Your guy is not out of it yet. If he finishes in the top two in Iowa and holds on to NH, he could finish second in SC... and maybe by then this Huckabee surge will have subsided...
There are a lot of nominating contests on the horizon.
I'm relaxed about Romney's candidacy. I think his campaign is doing a good job. I also support Fred Thompson and this isn't how I'd be promoting him. We don't need the death-metal crowd for Fred. That is all...

and I was listening to Berlioz as a I typed, but the other commenters have a point: it adds to the humor of the thing. It wasn't designed for thoughtful reflection, for agreeing with Senator Thompson abut camels through the eye of a needle; rather, it's some fun stuff.
Primary seasons can be fun, you know. I recall Leon's firsthand descriptions of what was going on at that event where they held the Iowa Straw Poll last August. That was fun stuff.
I think no matter what, we will end up with a nominee with at least a chance to defeat Hillary. Obama? We'll see.
Hey some of those death metal folks vote -- I saw three of them come out to vote during the Virginia elections in November --although I think those guys were either democrats or Ron Paul supporters because they didn't want to sign my petition to put Thompson on the ballot in Feb. 08
Then again -- maybe they had white shirts and ties on underneath the metal t-shirts and were actually Romney supporters. (just teasing)
kowalski,
I think you underestimate the death metal crowd. Granted most of them don't give a flying flip about politics, but myself included there are many metal heads that are actively involved in politics. If only we could really tap into the independent streak in many of these potential voters, we could show them that true conservatism (with a heavy grain of libertarianism) is the type of government that many of this group would favor. What doesn't make sense about lower taxes, less government! Tell 'em ban government sensorship and you would have them coming out in droves to support you.
Come on, Al, really? OK, would it ACTUALLY run? Nah, no serious campaign would actually run it (although one wonders if some rogue 527 group might....).
So if it is in no danger of ever running, don't you still laugh at it here?

I'm not sure why folks in the Romney camp would be "relaxed". The man has never had over 11% or 12% support nationally on RCP's site. He's getting the crap kicked out of him in every state he's made a run at except his back yard (which is better than John Edwards can do here in NC). Romney is a paper front runner. He had the bills early on to get his name in the press. Big deal. Huckabee has shown that money is not all that matters...but it does matter. What it all boils down to is this. If you're an across the board real Republican, you are Pro-Life, Pro Equal rights (no extra's for Homosexualls or anyone else), Pro-Marriage = Man + Woman, Anti-New Taxes, Higher Taxes, Any Taxes and you're a Hawk on Defense, or in the war On Terrorism, you're a Hawk on Offense. Fred Thompson fits all of those characteristics. I love Mike Huckabee. He's a great man. I was on board with his Campaign in 2006 before he announced. I've followed him closely for months. I'm moving to Fred's Camp. Huckabee is good guy. I was giving him a pass on the tax record because I think at best he gets a "mixed" grade on it. He raised some, with voters agreement on the ballot, and he lowered some. He's wised up on immagration. When he picked a fight with a sitting president on Foreign Policy at a time of war, he lost my vote, my support and my contributions. I hope he finds a job this next fall running Dept. Health and Human Services or something. The only 3/3rds republican out there with the weight, the experience, judgement and more importantly, the right philosophy in context with our founding fathers desires is Fred Thompson.
Why do I spew this all here? Why not? Fred, why couldn't you have been the VP pick in 2000? Go Fred Go.
It's hilarious. It makes me weep with hilarity. I love it! I'll make a follow-up Flash movie, with Fred and Romney. You guys are going to lurrrrrrve it. ;)
Not only that, but Hawkins and frankj have been around a lot longer than the Huckabee campaign.
Bobby Fretwell was convicted of the murder of Sherman Sullins, 81. The murder occurred after Fretwell, his wife and another acquaintance stole a truck in Texas, and it broke down near Marshall. The 3 walked to Sullins' home and said they needed help because they were having car trouble. After entering Sullins' home, Fretwell shot him with a pistol and stole his truck and his money. Another governor, abusing his power, commuted Fretwell's sentence, erasing in a moment the work of the judge, police, prosecutors, jury and appeals courts. FROM 1999: Citing a juror's plea, Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas announced today that he was commuting the death sentence of a man scheduled to be executed in 11 days. Here is another one for Mike to answer... ''I had rather face the anger of the people than the wrath of God,'' Governor Huckabee said of his decision, in the case of Bobby Ray Fretwell. Governor Huckabee, a Republican, is a former Baptist minister and a vocal supporter of capital punishment. He has allowed six other men to be executed since becoming Governor in July 1996. He said today that he had been moved to commute the death sentence of Mr. Fretwell, convicted of murdering an 81-year-old farmer , after a juror who had voted for the death sentence asked him to intercede. ''I still believe the death penalty is an appropriate response to certain crimes when properly adjudicated and administered,'' Mr. Huckabee said. But he said personal appeals by the juror, Gene E. Stinnett, had ''provided sufficient doubt as to the veracity'' of the defense counsel.

I don't understand -- on what basis -- was the 81 year old Sullins so near the end of this life that it wasn't as terrible to cut it short?
Huckabee is a liberal folks -- he is almost as liberal as they come.

I seriously don't understand this whole Fred Thompson facts takeoff of the Chuck Norris thing. Is it supposed to be satirical, making fun of Thompson for being an old guy or something? Do people really think that Fred Thompson is that cool? I do not, and I think most non-Republicans agree with me. When I watch this, it just makes less than no sense to me. It would be like someone making "Tim Russert facts." Besides, if Fred Thompson wants to run on being cool, Barack Obama would wipe the floor with him.
"Fred Thompson shoved a camel through the eye of a needle" to me makes as much sense as "Behind Jim Cramer's beard there is no chin, only another fist." This has nothing to do with his policies, just with this image that is being put forth that makes no sense to me.
Fred Thompson's wife is younger than his daughter.
Hey, if it misses you, it misses you.
But I beg to differ on the Obama vs Fred 'cool contest'. You must be either under 30, or a Democrat. Are you? On stage, Obama is uncomfortable and square. Fred is funny, satirical, and can laugh at himself. Obama gets all upset if you talk about his ears (no, that's really true).
Stare decisis is fo' suckas -- Feddie
Both. So maybe I am not in the target demographic. But I think under 30 and/or Democrats make up a pretty big part of the country - like 40% of people are under 30, and 35% are Democrats, so that probably makes up more than half of the country, not even counting Dem leaners. So I am certainly not alone in not getting it. I actually wouldn't be surprised if that is how it shakes out in terms of who thinks this is funny and who does not.
But I always assumed that the whole Chuck Norris "facts" thing appealed mainly to the under 30 crowd in the first place...I guess not.
And Obama was on Monday Night Football.
But here's a demographic to consider: Voting Americans.
Take out everybody under 18. Then consider that 18-30's vote in numbers that are, in a word, poor. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but let's just say that if Fred comes across as 'cool' and Obama as 'nerd' to a whole bunch of people over 30 -- then you and your Dems would get slaughtered in the 'who is cooler' contest for Voting Americans.
Just sayin'. I don't really know where the Chuck Norris "facts" thing hits demographically. I know I'm 44, and I always thought they were a scream.
So, I don't know. This is all my opinion. Good luck, but I hope it's Fred vs Shrillary, cuz I think Obama may be harder to beat.
Stare decisis is fo' suckas -- Feddie
The fact that young, attractive women have always flocked to Fred is one of the main reasons he is so cool.
Now, if you think Oprah is cute, than yeah, sure, Obama is cooler than Fred...

At the same time, these men are ageless.
What is it with the obsession about the younger wife. Envy? This educated, intelligent woman prefers older men.
Cuz she's hot, smart, and conservative.
Oh, my bad, I think you meant that question for those who have some *objection* to Fred having an intelligent, educated, and hot wife.
Carry on, JTaylor!

the Chuck Norris thing a month or two ago?
Kinda unoriginal, and Huckabee's was 100x better because it actually FEATURED Chuck Norris...
and since I generally dislike thrashing and screaming, it must be an artistic triumph.
...does he hang on for South Carolina?
Any chance of him dropping out and endorsing McCain?
..but that is about it for him. He will find it difficult to get support from the evangelical block. And he really really needs them to gain ground.
If that was true, what would explain Fred racking up endorsements from so many of the Right-to-Life groups?
It's as if Rip Van Winkle awoke from his nap as Jean Claude Van Damme--without hair. ;)
