Hey, Senator Obama! I got a couple more candidates for that party trick you do.

You know? The "___ was not the man I knew" game that everybody loves?

Looks like you have a couple more volunteers lined up. Courtesy of Conde Nast, who put something together for the weekend just for you:

Countrywide's Many 'Friends'
by Daniel Golden Jun 12 2008

Two U.S. senators, two former Cabinet members, and a former ambassador to the United Nations received loans from Countrywide Financial through a little-known program that waived points, lender fees, and company borrowing rules for prominent people.

Senators Christopher Dodd, Democrat from Connecticut and chairman of the Banking Committee, and Kent Conrad, Democrat from North Dakota[*], chairman of the Budget Committee and a member of the Finance Committee, refinanced properties through Countrywide’s “V.I.P.” program in 2003 and 2004, according to company documents and emails and a former employee familiar with the loans.

Really, I wouldn't even bring this up if you hadn't so obligingly dumped reluctantly accepted the resignation of James Johnson when it came out that he did the very same thing as two of your very prominent super-delegates. You see, I figure that there has to be a point where even you won't duck and cover whenever another one of your infamous judgment calls goes pear-shaped; two sitting Senators should fit the bill. Even if Chris Dodd is precisely the sort of juiced-in corporate fatcat that you're supposedly against.

Yes, yes, not the Chris Dodd that you knew. It's funny, Senator Obama: all those times that I get told about how Bush was "intellectually incurious" by the very people who are now your most avid supporters, and not once did I twig to the fact that they actually meant it as a compliment.

Go figure.

PS: Free advice, to all you Bright Young Things hoping to get a job in a hypothetical Obama administration: do yourself a favor. Get every directive in writing. Accept no verbal instructions. Ever. Even if it means your job.

Trust me on this.

*The other three mentioned were "former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala, and former UN ambassador and assistant secretary of state Richard Holbrooke." Now, Jackson's GOP and Shalala is Clinton's, so I figure that you won't be taking them on anyway - but if you could see your way clear to snapping up Holbrooke, prior of course to your cutting him loose, that would be helpful.

Why? Oh, just for sheer sadism's sake.

Does anyone find it by Hamtree

Does anyone find it surprising that someone who is rich and has perfect credit could get a huge loan on special conditions?
The problem with the load industry wasn't that it gave rich perfect credit people good special loans, the problem was that they would give anyone a loan.

Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all ...

PS: You mean, there are Democrats who are actually part of the evil rich?

What's Surprising by Bourbeau

What's surprising is that anyone would think the only thing these privileged clients received were loans. Companies, like Countrywide, including airlines, car rentals, manufacturers an luxury good suppliers routinely provide these VIP types of special services to Congressional & Corporate types (a.k.a. there "preferred clientele"). Sit back and enjoy the show, there will be more to come with this parade.

...who merely tossed Johnson for the unforgivable sin of causing people to call into question Barack Obama's judgment.

Again.

Wait so them getting a special loan rate, then you know, favoring these companies/friends from company is ok, but having a lobbyist working for you is bad? Trying to defend this is not going to work when you also attack the GOP for any little mistake they make.

All these things wouldn't be such a big problem if Barry didn't try to act like a perfect Saint.

"Wait so them getting a special loan rate, then you know, favoring these companies/friends from company is ok, but having a lobbyist working for you is bad?"

A private transaction between two entities is different then private lobbyists influencing government.

We're just trying to unscramble his rather confused and ad hoc stances on the issue.

What's the difference ...? by Martin A. Knight

Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd receiving special gift loan rates from a private company is okay, but being in the same room with a lobbyist, unless you're Barack Obama, is wrong ...?

NOTE: Lobbying is a right guaranteed by the First Amendment's clauses protecting the right of the people to assemble and to petition their government. In other words, you, I, anyone, has every right to "influence" government.

Notwithstanding all the media squealing and scaremongering, there's nothing wrong with being a lobbyist or an elected official meeting with a lobbyist, in and of itself.

*facepalm*

Giving them a deal is influencing government, they are giving these people deals and these people are then going and voting in their favor, JUST LIKE A LOBBYIST.

I was unaware that Jim Johnson is a government official, what office does he hold?
The treatment wasn't that special considering on one loan he had a higher rate then the average, and considering that he is a rich guy with perfect credit.

The fact that people are resorting to attacking Obama because the person who was helping to pick Obama's VP got a loan is a bit laughable.

The latter is very easy to do; sufficiently so that it's our little intelligence test.

You don't even read what your posting about do you? You just get the forum reply from a site and post away. This is about Senators who took these deals 2 Dem Senators, not the guy working for Obama, please read then reply.

Keep up the good work...

Expose these phony dems...

With Obama outfront they think their dirty dealings won't be found out???

Dodd, Conrad and Obama by LargeBill

Sen. Obama needs to be asked at every opportunity if he believes Dodd and Conrad should be expelled, or censured or if bribery is an accepted practice. Specifically, Dodd who took the bribe and then wrote legislation that benefited Countrywide. Crooks like Dodd need to be in jail not in the senate.
