Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee won two more nominating contests.

The nine delegates to a national Republican convention from the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas will all be supporting McCain.

The American Samoa Republican Party announced Saturday that all nine of the delegates of the American Samoa Republican Party will also support John McCain.

The delegates from American Samoa and the Northern Marianas give McCain 976 of the 1,191 delegates required to secure the Republican nomination. Mike Huckabee remains far behind with 254 delegates.

Huckabee continues to reject calls that he drop out of the race.

I'm beginning to think Huckabee may be considering a third party run. Does anyone think he'll try it? Why was he meeting with Dobson yesterday? Why in the world he still running against McCain?

he'll guarantee a Democrat in the White House. Surely he's not Ross Perot stupid, even if Dr. Dobson were.

...in a third party bid, then it opens the door for John McCain to nominate a Condi Rice or a Joe Lieberman as the running mate. McCain doesn't owe evangelical conservatives anything at that point, and it would make sense to do something that would bring in more independents. I'm not commenting on whether this is a good idea, but that would be the reality, and it would also be political suicide for evangelicals because no one who's actually going to win will hold any debt to them.

The times I have heard him speak, he praises McCain for not being nagative. In one speech he commented about how the two most positive campaigns lasted the longest. When interviewed about Romney endorsing McCain he basically said that when it happened to him he wouldn't have to fake it - implying that he would give McCain a good endorsement. So I don't expect him to try any third party run. For one thing he would end his career and I have to think he has an interest in keeping his career up.
As far as his not dropping out, I think it may just be plain stubborness and wanting to stay untill he's really lost - I know he would have to get like 75% of the remaining delagates to win, but he still hasn't officially lost. Were in the last ten minutes of the game and he's behind 12 - 48 points, but the game isn't technically over. Huck is waiting till its technically over and I don't blame him. I can relate to refusing to quit untill its really lost - its kind of in my personality - if I'm in a game and still absolutely no practical shot at winning, I still fight to the finish. Actually I think McCain likely would have done the same thing if he was in Huck's position. I think both people are stuborn people, McCain's being stubborn and sticking up against the odds is why he's basically won - it's extremely unlikely for it to happen ot Huck but I don't blame him for not quitting untill the delagate hits 1191.

No way Huckabee ever goes third party. He's not that kind of man.

Staying in right now doesn't hurt McCain. It continues to give John some media time he might not otherwise have. And it also helps keep some conservative issues at the fore. Huckabee will drop out when he needs to.

Speaking of SNL, the cold open last night with the CNN Debate and the media being in the tank for Obama was hilarious.

Not a chance! by dbecraft

He is staying in for the exposure and for him - good old fashioned fun. He might have future ambitions, but even there, I would be very surprised.
It also helps raise his speaking fees I'm sure...(still has to pay his mortgage ya know - not one of the rich guys).

If Huckabee drops out by Socrates

the MSM will go into full attack mode on McCain. They know that the battle, this year, is over the moderates who don't pay attention to the news except for headlines. If they keep the surface noise negative about McCain, the "undecideds" will walk into the booth and pull for that nice Obama fellow.

I think Huckabee should stay in. He'd best not start giving the MSM ammunition against McCain, though, or he'd as well look for another Party.

skunk on the table by cvtheis

First off - that was pretty funny.

To put the skunk on the table, aren't we just seeing the Huckster hang in the race in case "something might happen" to the good senator before the convention... he will be there to bear the standard?

Or is there more to it?

I'm not a Huckabee guy, but the guy sure can poke fun at himself. He at least makes the contest humorous at times.

Money? by SteveLA

Could it be that America's Pastor is using his failed election bid to raise his profile in the public eye which will result in more and higher payed speaking engagements?

The Huckster can only count so much on his retirement or savings or what ever to sustain himself, so staying in makes his speechifying business go much much better once the race is over.

I'm not sure which speakers bureau books Pastor Huckaboob, but his rate card has be in revision right now and there will be lots of groups ready to have him speak at their next meeting.

Huckabee might be aiming to by Balfour Conservative

Huckabee might be aiming to set himself up as the front runner in the 2012 primaries. Republicans have a tendency to give their nominations to the guy who came in second in the previous one. I bet we see him do a John Edwards following the campaign. Not that three years of pounding down the doors in Iowa did Edwards much good.

“One element in the strength of any government is the patriotism of the people, their love for its institutions, their pride for its name and achievements.” ~ William McKinley

Romney came in second and bowed out gracefully. No matter how long Huck stays in, no one will think he came in second.

That was funny! by ZootSuit

I never said Mike Huckabee wasn't charming. But I still wouldn't vote for him.

Very funny skit. I think by indy2008 hantworth

Very funny skit. I think Huckabee is staying in the race to raise his public image and maybe become a talk show host or something, thats what he seemed like on the show but it was very funny.

Huckabee Should Bow by adamsweb

To the will of the mighty North Marina Island and American Samoa. By the way, these are not committed delegates to the convention. Get over it.
