The Ron Paul Revolution comes to New Hampshire

Ron Paul Revolution

Original link via Ace of Spades HQ...

For the last eight years, the Democratic left has claimed that voting machines are the tools of electoral fraud in America. They claimed that the efficiency that makes them useful also makes them unreliable. However, a lack of efficiency also has a cost, unfortunately a personal one.

Read on...

On primary night in Sutton, New Hampshire, they used no voting machines. Everything was done by hand. Vote totals were read aloud and written down by hand onto the form sent to the state officials, and in that process a mistake was made. Ron Paul's 31 votes were missed, with his line on the form left blank entirely.

The mistake was corrected the next day in an updated fax, when a polite voter asked why his vote for Ron Paul did not register in the official tally, but that was too late to prevent problems for poor Jennifer Call, Sutton's town clerk. She became the target of a nationwide intimidation effort, as deranged Ron Paul supporters across the country accused her of numerous crimes including treason and fraud.

Calling her at work and at home, calling her primarily from out of state, harassing her, accusing her, threatening her, and using false identities at times, the Ron Paul Revolution turned this woman's life into a nightmare. Says the Concord Monitor:

She went home and locked her doors. She called her mother in North Carolina. She cried. The calls kept coming. She unhooked her answering machine and requested an unlisted number.

"I was drained emotionally and physically," Call said. "That's when I really started to freak out. Thursday it hit me, that most of these people are not rational. That's when I became scared."

Some say the Republican Party needs to reach out to these people, because we may not draw them into the fold if we reject Ron Paul too strongly. I hope they're right; I hope these people never identify Republican a day in their lives. Let their Nazi brownshirt tactics of intimidation stay put, outside of the legitimacy of a peaceful, national party.

Oddly enough, they sound like the very same people they accuse Dick Cheney and Homeland Security of being...

I guess a vote for Ron Paul is trading one type of fascism for another.

...positively horrifying.

But honestly, didn't you see this coming? Ron Paul voted against the Do Not Call registry, so why would it bother him that his supporters would callously harass innocent people on the phone?

Wow by pscblazer20

What is wrong with these people!! When are they going to figure out that Ron Paul is not going to win, he's done a good job getting his views on government out there for conservatives to help put pressure on the mainstream candidates but his defense ideology is totally wrong. Needless to say Paul would be doing everyone a favor if he'd just drop out now and stop this.

Just read his old newsletter, the Ron Paul Survival Report.

"Needless to say X would be doing everyone a favor if (s)he'd just drop out now and stop this."

There is not a single person (I almost said "guy") running for president for whom this statement is not true.

Man is free at the moment he wishes to be. --Voltaire

There is no excuse for this kind of behavior, but the fact is that all the ones I know are sane, rational people who are really concerned about things like this:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59650

Go ahead, start the aspersions about the fact that it's a WND article.

Now that we are past that, this is a real case and it comes down from a Republican Administration. That's part of what's driving the frustration. Republican Administration's come and go, but government gets bigger, the deficit gets bigger, and the threat to civil liberties and gun rights just keeps on going.

One of my good friends is behind Ron Paul after having endured malicious prosecution over damage done to trees on a building project that he was chief architect on. The Bush Administration's EPA went after him, the other contractors, and even some suppliers claiming that trees in a neighboring wilderness area were harmed by the construction of a shopping mall.

He is now bankrupt, and he is a giant Ron Paul supporter. And yes, he is rabid. He had his whole life taken away from him over a stand of trees that he didn't even touch, and wasn't even on the site when the alleged damage was done.

Every victim of the IRS, every small business owner ruined by OSHA or EPA regs, every gun owner who's been targeted unfairly, every victim of racial preferences, and the list just keeps going are all on the Ron Paul bandwagon.

Do they take this all too far?

Yes, they do quite often. But this site makes it sound like all of the Ron Paul supporters are nuts or drug heads.

That's nuts. A lot of them have a beef, and they get carried away. The fact is, that if the rest of the field (even my guy, sadly) were even REMOTELY believable when they talk about individual liberty or reducing the power of government or any of the other traditional Republican themes - then there wouldn't be so much rabid support of Ron Paul.

I've made peace with Huckabee's statism since I hope that there will be something in return, but I still fully recognize the Devil's Bargain I'm making. For small government, pro-liberty types, especially those who have been through a Federal Case, there just isn't any alternative.

There are plenty of blogs that will let you write apologetics for creepy stalker political fanatics who hound middle aged female clerks because they see conspiracies under the bed. This isn't one of them; don't do it again.

PS: :ka-click: Please. Argue with me. Give me lip. Try to "explain". Do anything except mutter "Yes, Moe" and behave.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

I know there is plenty of reason to dismiss RoPaul, but there is no reason to dismiss all of his supporters just because some of them think every bad thing that happens is part of a conspiracy and they behave badly as a result.

The fact that what Jaszkowski wrote may well be true isn't even arguable. It is exactly the kind of thing that drives people to a fringe character like Paul; he is with them on individual rights and "common sense," so they don't care that his foreign, monetary, and tax policies would likely be disastrous.

Obviously, Kelo isn't the only case that was decided outrageously last year. If some of the mainstream candidates were talking about prosecutorial excesses against regular, non-terrorist citizens (just as they talk about judicial excesses), it would make me feel better, too, and I'm for Fred all the way. After all, the only thing between most of us and bankruptcy is the good will of most public servants; oversight by the Executive is necessary to keep the ones who are obsessed with power in line.

While I'm at it, I have to add that I didn't read anything in his comment to be an apologetic for the irredeemable people who terrorized this innocent clerk. I took it to be an explanation for why anybody might want to support RP.

I stand corrected. Please mentally correct my statement to read "in the last two years."

If it was before the '06 elections, we should have been talking about it then. Which is exactly what I was writing about.

This is really depressing, a small town overrun by crazies every 4 years and because of a basic clerical error, that had NO IMPACT on anything and the clerk is now harassed into hiding.

Ya gotta love the town photo on the web site, it is just so quaint. http://www.sutton-nh.gov/

If Ron Paul's supporters were to call their local Congressman and explain how this issue highlights the need for electronic voting machines, than I would have no problem with it. In fact, I think that would be the most proper course of action to take.

Organize a rally and highlight the issue as very important. Sure, New Hampshire finally got it right- AFTER someone spoke up. What if they never checked the official tallies to note the error?

Calling your local Congressman, telling your friends and family members to increase awareness of an issue is political activism at its best. We encourage activity like that all the time here at RedState. However, calling and harrassing a volunteer poll worker who was a subject of human error at the most inappropriate and unfortunate time is beyond the pale. It makes me wonder when the last time those making the calls have volunteered to do similar work.

because it was seen by some supporters as the tip of a fraud iceberg. The campaign thinks the overall numbers make sense and there is a lot of disappointment among general supporters over harassment such as this, and some other moments that made it on youtube. These actions are very much looked down upon, and discouraged. I think people are learning to behave themselves.

We all know that American Idol contestants dont represent all Americans, and certainly obsessed loudmouths dont represent all Paul supporters.

The funny thing is that right now, on the republican side its 5 people running against each other, and Ron Paul running against them. It should be very entertaining to watch the mud fly as he stands by waiting to engage the survivor.

BTW, Austin NAACP President defended Paul after that smear.

If Mitt Romney's supporters were calling a clerk in Sutton and telling her she should be shot for treason, Mitt would get out on the airwaves and say he does not support that kind of behavior. Any other credible candidate would do that. RP has not.

Look at what the guy stands for, not what his SUPPORTERS stand for.

Apparently, "the guy" stands for racism.

It's one thing to ignore a support base of loonatics.

It's another to stand bt silently as they attack an innocent person, and do so in your name.

It is time for Ron Paul to speak up. Any man worth supporting would.

I'm not voting for Ron Paul because it's not expressly prescribed in the Constitution.
-- Mark Hemingway, The Corner (NRO)

"...In New Hampshire, while I would have hoped for a better result than eight percent, I am convinced that vote fraud played no role in this result. Rumors of vote fraud were investigated, and in the end they proved to be the result of errors in early media reports that were not reflected in the official numbers. In one notable case, when a campaign staff member contacted an individual who had on the evening of January 8 claimed that his vote had not been counted, the person said that he had made a mistake and that the next morning the error in reporting on a newspaper website had been corrected both in the media and -- most importantly -- in the official tally."

The liberal media is only trusted when it can be used to smear someone we hate?

Well, it's hard to argue with PDFs of the original document. Or do you believe these were fraudlently created? Paul has admitted that these newsletters had his permission to use his name.

Scott Beauchamp?

And before anyone asks:
Yes I think Ron Paul was an idiot for letting his name be used like that, and yes he lost respect in my eyes. but being inattentive is not Racism. it's just being an idiot.

(now which is better? being an idiot or a racist? I'd rather be neither :)

Look, I knew about these newsletters MONTHS ago. It's not news, and heaping abuse on TNR won't make this embarassing blight on Ron Paul's record go away.

Try something else.

Believe me, I know all about RatherGate; it's what led me to RedState (via krempasky) in the first place. My blog (long since retired) was linked in the original PowerLine blog that broke the whole thing :) .

There's no comparison -- these documents have been verified as authentic by Paul himself. As I've said in other places, the absolute best spin that can be put on this is that Paul was woefully negligent in protecting the use of his name, and then defending his name after the fact.

Seriously - as a few here and there point out, the whack jobs are not 100% of the Paul supporters. Heck, there are one or two sane ones here. But jeez, the percentages are so high that I am hard-pressed to see why one would NOT generalize about them.
