Polls start closing at 7 PM Eastern in GA

By Adam C Posted in Comments (221) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

[UPDATE 8:18, Moe Lane]: CNN's covering all of today's races here. They've already called Illinois for Obama, with 0% in... which sounds about right, really.

Exit Polls are being released. Note first that these are not complete because not everyone has voted. Second, they don't release numbers ahead of time unless they are leaked. And third, there isn't much surprising in this batch. But the link has what they released to the press.

[UPDATE 6:27] Exit Polls with numbers from the Corner. Again, this are not final because voters are still voting.

[UPDATE 6:51 (Dan McLaughlin)] Also via Geraghty, MyDD has the D-side exits. Obama walking off with the South by huge margins, and leading as far north as MO, MA, DE & NJ. Hillary winning favorite-daughter status in her adopted home of AR but getting squashed in her actual home state of IL, and winning OK handily.

[UPDATE 7:00] GA polls are closed, results will be here. CNN calls for Obama immediately.

Continue the predictions, infighting, and other election day fun.

Interesting. by lobo

If these are correct, there are some surprises. I didn't expect Romney to take Missori, but thought he would take California.

Still, its early, so a lot can change.

Americans working and volunteering abroad is how we keep on top of the global economy. We want our spoons in everyone else's soup.

(-2.75, -4.92)

I am still predicting a close delegate count when this is done.

My previous prediction was
McCain 577
Romney 429
Huckabee 270
http://www.redstate.com/blogs/lobo/2008/feb/04/likely_result_after_super...

And I still think it is valid. I even acurately predicted that Huckabee would take West Virgina. Although, I think there is a chance that Romney and Huckabee will do a little better and McCain a little worse.

That exit poll shows McCain by Left Coast R

That exit poll shows McCain up in CA. But they can't reflect the absentee and mail-in ballots right? Anyway, it all looks pretty close, I was surprised at AZ!

Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone. --Mitt Romney

I still think Romney will take AZ. 5% spread isn't much.

It is possible that Huck will have more delegates than Romney after tonight. That could change, but he's winning Southern states. If Romney wins WTA MO then nevermind, but Huck could be #2 after the dust settles.

Also note, that even if AZ is 44-39, it's WTA. While MA gives Romney a big lead, it's proportional. That's a lucky break for the McCain camp.

Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone. --Mitt Romney

According to Fox News exit polls which said that western states are not as represented (Romney country) McCain led among republicans by 40 to 36!!! Only. That's taking into account huge New England states. And McCain was seriously trailing among conservatives.

This is not going to be a blow out. Conservatives came to Romney and GOP is split.

"To discuss evil in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it." AR

Don't forget Delaware, its also WTA, but only 18 delegates. East coast numbers are more important than east coast.

But it would be better the McCain (not much mind you).

He's the only CONSISTENT pro-life, anti-illegal immigration, pro-small government, anti-tax guy on the ballot.

I'll support McCain in November.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

Romney is running very close to McCain nationwide. He is doing well even in AZ, he is doing decently in NY and NJ. He is winning DE and possibly MO. He will win a bunch caucus states. Huckabee will steal southern states from McCain.

The game is still on. I am just hoping to knock the air of inevitability out of McCain hard.

"To discuss evil in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it." AR

Wishful thinking. by St. Louis Conservative

Even if Romney makes a race of it in California, it likely won't make a difference and McCain will still be way ahead after today.

The Democrat race is far more muddled than the GOP race.

You may be right, but after by swamp_yankee

You may be right, but after today the states get much more Red. If Romney hangs tough, he can rebound.

Also, remember in the West, its only 3:30, and a lot of Romney's supporters work, so they will vote later.

someone who I would never consider nor want running the white house. I'm sickened that it has come to this. I belong to a party more concerned about winning than nominating the leader of the free world.

To make matters worse, I get a nasty look from the lady validating my signature when I declare I will be voting Republican. (NJ is full of commies/dems).

To then make matters even more worse, (yes, it gets worser), I go into the booth and can't figure out what the heck is going on! Everywhere I look, these spanish words are staring back at me and I have no idea what is going on!! I have to exit and ask the attendant if I'm in the wrong booth. He pointed out that I had to examine the machine more closely, the English is UNDER the spanish.

So. Needless to say I am not too happy right now, learning that English is a second language now in America. Knowing that people can come to this country and not have to bother to learn the language that our laws are written in. Angry that I can't understand who's on the ballot anymore. Angry that this party is no longer the party of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan.

As a republican and christian I am torn. I have always believed IN people and am FOR things. This country was founded on principles to believe in, not against. I hate being AGAINST people and things, it seems so un-american and seems to be pointing at the state of the union this Super Tuesday evening.

Georgia isn't even at one by swamp_yankee

Georgia isn't even at one percent yet. At this rate, we'll know the results of California first.

AP and some local by rdelbov

AP and some local organizations can get results directly from the polling sight. Most votes will be tallied by closing polls down-driving the counters/machines to the election commission. Then votes are counted. Uusually only votes from absentees or votes from polling stations at an election commission are counted in less then 1/2 hour.

I have (as a certified observsor) got results and called them in to REP HQ in past elections. This is not just a big internet poll. People actually have to close down machines, pack up election-poll books, turn off the lights and left the building 1st.

They've updated the exit poll numbers with more people... Huck is way up with women. McCain still 3rd.

"To discuss evil in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it." AR

Looking at the CNN Georgia exit poll, it shows quite a bit of difference in vote based on region of Georgia, with each candidate having areas of strength. It's probably safe to say that each candidate will be the winner in some of Georgia's 13 congressional districts (delegates per win). Still, the big prize is the statewide winner who walks away with 30 delegates plus whatever district delegates won.
