Who Ya Gonna Call?
John McCain is Ready For That Call.

As Michael Kinsley once said, a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth. Witness this totally unsurprising (except for the source) admission* by one of Barack Obama's foreign policy advisers, responding to Walter Mondale's Hillary Clinton's now famous "3 a.m." ad asking which candidate you want answering the White House phone at 3 a.m. to deal with a national security crisis:
"[Hillary] Clinton hasn't had to answer the phone at three o'clock in the morning and yet she attacked Barack Obama for not being ready," Ms. Rice said. "They're both not ready to have that 3 a.m. phone call."
True enough. But then, they're not the only ones running for President, are they? (See, the silly mistakes you make when you get primary-season tunnel vision). Even the lefty bloggers can pick up on the obvious (this from a conference call with the Hillary camp):
Blogger Jane Hamsher gets on and asks whether the 3 a.m. ad is reinforcing a Republican message — "isn't McCain ultimately the winner in that tactic"?
Yeah, sorry Jane, I know it's terribly unfair for anyone to consider national security when they vote for the presidency. It's like Swift-boating! Rice's admission came as part of the Obama camp's effort to push back at Hillary on the grounds that she, like Obama, lacks John McCain's qualifications for the job:
"It's important to examine that claim and not just allow her to assert it, which I think has been going on for quite some time," Mr. Obama said. "What exactly is this foreign experience that she's claiming? I know she talks about visiting 80 countries. It is not clear, was she negotiating treaties or agreements, or was she handling crises during this period of time? My sense is the answer's no. I have not seen any evidence that she is better equipped to handle a crisis. If the only criteria is longevity in Washington, than she's certainly not going to compete with John McCain on that."
McCain, of course, has been on the Senate Armed Services Committee for 21 years - longer than Obama has been out of law school.
Read On...
Obama is lashing out now because he thinks he got thumped in Ohio and lost in Texas, leading to howls of despair at his party's lack of an exit strategy from the primaries and speculation about the party's descent into a spiral of self-destructive attacks, all because Hillary did a better job of whining to reporters than he did:
"There's no doubt that Senator Clinton went very negative over the last week," Obama said. He said the Clinton campaign's multiple attacks "had some impact" on the election results "particularly in the context where many of you in the press corps had been persuaded that you had been too hard on her and too soft on me."
"Complaining about the refs apparently worked a little bit this week," he said, equating members of the news media with referees in a sporting event.
"So hopefully in addition to my call to Lorne Michaels, hopefully now people feel like everything's evened out and we can start actually covering the campaign properly," he said.
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the reference to Michaels, producer of the television comedy show "Saturday Night Live," was a joke.
Don't worry, Obama can't handle Lorne Michaels but he's quite sure he can handle Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadenijad.
*Also noted in the diaries.
** - Beldar's take on the Hillary ad isn't really relevant here but it's still funny.

the gaffes by Obama's staff, his own, and his wife are adding up day after day!!
Did Rezko find jobs for Obama staffers?
Chicago Sun Times March 6, 2008
Did Barack Obama use indicted campaign fund-raiser Tony Rezko as a conduit to get jobs for people in Gov. Blagojevich's administration?
The question arises from a list of 39 people Rezko's lawyers said in a court filing he urged Blagojevich to give state jobs.
Among those on the list were two people who appear to have Obama links and a third who's now an Obama presidential campaign staffer.
But did the names come from Obama? His campaign staff's short answer: Don't know -- but it's possible.
Obama is Jimmy Carter- only without the sweater.
Over on Lucianne.com there have been battles between those of us who wanted to crossover and vote Clinton in Texas and Ohio, and those who wanted it over and to vote Obama.
Just in the last week we have seen how great it is to have a Clinton smashing a liberal in the face can be!! Everything is working out for us right now. And if Clinton steals this nomination- WE WILL WIN...
Obama is Jimmy Carter- only without the sweater.
Time to redefine the meaning of "not"
Well when I said "not" I mispoke, I meant they both ARE ready for that 3 AM phone call...
or to parse the meaning of "both"
When I said they both are not ready for that 3 AM phone call, of course I was referring to both Sen. Obama's opponents, Mrs. Clinton and Sen. McCain, whom I respect very much...
Let's watch the wiggles of the worm on the hook and how easy the networks are to let her off.
This Democratic intra-party sniping is just delightful! So far the whole thing is turning out as I'd hoped. Hopefully, the expensive, nasty, destructive fighting will continue unabated for months. It makes me a bit nervous that Senator McCain will have trouble getting attention for his campaign, but right now this is too good to worry about the unknowable effects it might have on the future.
Obama is so soft on national security it isn't even funny. He's saying things that we never could have dreamed of saying about him. Like sitting down one-on-one with Ahmenidijad! All we need is one ad with that terrorist talking about blowing Israel off the map and then show a clip of Obama saying that he doesn't need to earn our respect and that we should sit down with him.

I am incensed at the latest from the illustrious McPeak.
"Barack Obama’s senior military adviser is blaming President Bush for poor U.S.-Iranian relations, claiming rampant anti-Americanism in Iran would have been averted if Bush hadn’t included the Islamic Republic in the “axis of evil” outlined in the president’s 2002 State of the Union address.
Gen. Merrill McPeak, a former Air Force chief of staff and a Joint Chiefs member during the presidency of George H. W. Bush, told Insight magazine that as president, Obama would meet with America’s enemies and try to find common ground — like the way the U.S. and Iran both oppose Al Qaeda."
It just kills me that this man ever wore AF blue.
I won't even go into the absurdity of his opening statement. He must have been comatose the last 30 years.
Whatever!

it's just that I thought Hillary and the rest of the nutroots wanted us to Move On and forget about those issues which were nothing but a smear campaign against their good name. And even if they couldn't really claim a good name, at the very least there was no controlling legal authority.
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!
There are two of'em parading as Dem candidates.

Webb covers Obama on security -- he was even Secretary of the navy under Ronald reagan -- and also puts Virginia in play for the Democrats.
Obama is going to need a military guy, which is so funny because all of the Democrats I talk to don't understand it at all. I wouldn't be surprised though if he goes out on a limb and picks someone stupid, like Feingold.
