Driving Illegals - Political Poison
Trust The People

A new poll finds voters oppose drivers' licenses for illegal aliens by a nearly five-to-one margin:
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of American adults are opposed to making drivers licenses available to people who are in the country illegally.
The results won't surprise anyone except the Liberal/Progressive extremists that have taken over the Democratic Party.
Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans oppose giving drivers’ licenses to undocumented immigrants. So do 68% of Democrats and 75% of those not affiliated with either major political party. There is little difference along gender, age, or income levels.
I have said before, we should trust the people on immigration reform. The people get it. They intuitively understand that it is stupid to give someone known to be here illegally a license to drive. Read on.

The poll numbers are the real reason Hillary refused to give a straight answer about New York Democratic Governor Elliot Spitzer's very unpopular proposal to give licenses to illegal aliens.
The same analysis applies to the misguided Liberal/Progressive proposal to provide instate tuition breaks to illegal aliens contained in the so-called Dream Act. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of all voters oppose the concept of the Dream Act. On the left coast, 62% of California voters support Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto of the state version of the Dream Act.
Providing any sort of "sanctuary" only encourages more illegal immigration.

Because of the "Motor-Voter" legislation signed off on under the Clinton Admin, an individual typically only needs to present a drivers license to be able to register to vote. There is not a need to prove citizenship.
So if Illegal Immigrants can get drivers licenses, it will not be difficult for them to get registered to vote. Hillary wants those votes, that is why she has to support it.
Elliot Spitzer's licenses would only allow illegals in NY to register and vote in the NY elections. NY is one of the bluest of blue states. If Hillary is going to need to resort to vote fraud to win in NY, then there isn't much of a worry about her winning elsewhere in America. That is obviously not the case so there must be another reason why she has taken this position.
I think Hillary supports the drivers licenses for illegals with an eye to the longer term view. It essentially erases one more and very significant distinction between citizens and illegals and is therefore another step towards amnesty.
Eventually if enough of these distinctions can be erased (like in-state tuition and access to welfare), then people won't see any problem in giving them citizenship too because it won't cost them anything that the illegals are not already getting. It essentially negates the very effective Robert Rector argument that granting citizenship will impose heavy costs on taxpayers. It is amnesty in baby steps. Once illegals get amnesty, then they will be voting for Democrats EVERYWHERE.
Hillary may have made a miscalculation though. Perhaps her stance on pandering to illegals will cost her the Presidency. It somewhat depends on who the GOP candidate is. I don't see how Rudy could make very effective use of this powerful wedge issue because his position is basically identical to Hillary's.
She can't carry toss up states like Missouri, and it would certainly help in Ohio, to have this kind of vote fraud.
NY was the specific state who's policy was cited as an example, but she generally supports the policy because applied elsewhere it would make a difference to her election results.
If you don't think that is how that crowd thinks and operates, you should look into what they did with immigration/citizenship processing in the run up to the 2000 election.

Allowing illegals to get drivers licenses and then take advantage of motor-voter programs would allow the Dems to do the same thing on a much wider scale.
if Rudy was the Repub. nominee, it might even make a difference for her there too.
The ultimate goal of the transnational elite (leadership) of the party is world government. National sovereignty and border are incompatible with that notion.
They have no idea what the results would actually look like, of course, or they wouldn't be attempting it.
Liberals/Democrats need numbers. or at least they think they do. Illegals, criminals, dead people. Vote and more than once (per election).

illegals.
The real question is why Republicans support it. And in-state tuition. They don't call us the StupidParty™ for nothing.

Just uncomfortable to a large chunk of our own ideology.
off based on the DREAM ACT collapse and the failure to get AgJobs through. But, yeah, that StupidParty appellation has been earned, especially on this issue.
in the national election.
Imagine running a clip of Hillary Clinton making various statements on illegal immigrants drivers licenses and having a clear (Fred Thompson comes to mind (LOL)) statement on why that is so obviously a bad idea.

Some may require an epiphany, but let it be this far out from next November.
is becoming a huge disappointment to the Republican Party. Once heralded for his "economic girly men" remark, and various conservative ideals, he is slowly but surely losing touch with these conservative ideals. The DREAM Act is another instance of this, along with his current stance on global warming. Why this is happening is debatable, but for a man who, at one point, many wanted to amend the consitution for, so he could run for president, he is fast becoming an embarassment.

....why do Democrats support driver's licenses and amnesty when such an overwhelming number of people oppose it? Are they really THAT beholden to immigrants' rights groups, the ACLU, and open-borders advocates?
