From NRO's The Corner, the excerpt from the federal wiretaps, undoubtedly done illegally and in violation of FISA, that will reportedly result in a federal indictment for Eliot Spitzer:

LEWIS continued that from what she had been told "he" (believed to be a reference to Client-9) "would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe - you know - I mean that . . . very basic things. . . . "Kristen" responded: "I have a way of dealing with that . . . I'd be like listen dude, you really want the sex? . . . You know what I mean."

Keep in mind these are prostitutes talking about things that would be unsafe? True it could involve those little Shriner cars but I think that's unlikely.

I just heard... by ConservativePartyNow

That BillyJeff called Spitzer about him being his Veep Pick

Surely he would have used campaign money, rather than dipping into public funds for something so ... private.

You must be correct by kowalski

Alan Dershowitz thinks very highly of him, having previously said in Time Magazine that he's "the real deal" and tries to "do the right thing."

He's defending him in the Huffington Post:

"I feel terrible for Eliot and his family," said Dershowitz. "But I feel that this was a story that we have to put in perspective. Big deal. Married man goes to prostitute. In Europe, this wouldn't even make the back pages of the newspaper."

And therefore, Socrates, I stand corrected, as its clear that Spitzer would have only used untainted money to pay for his hookers. ;)

except that Spitzer was actively involved in prosecuting similar crimes while committing them himself. It screams conflict of interest, which may end up being a bigger story.

But to me, any time a public official has a hidden life like this, or one carried out in airport bathrooms, there's probably something else wrong, too. People don't have just one are of weakness.

Oh well. Now that there's blood in the water, the sharks will find the meat.

I'd agree. Spitzer's claim to fame is as a prosecutor. A prosecutor CANNOT violate the law. The only subtlety is that he's now Gov, and not a prosecutor any more. I'm not really all that judgemental about this stuff; I'll leave the judgements to my wife - she relishes the role, but when you've made your reputation by posing yourself as Dudley Do-right, you just can't do this stuff.

In Vino Veritas

I guess Dr. Dershowitz never heard of the Profumo scandal in 1963, which took place in Britain.

(If you haven't either, google for it.)

It was front-page news in Britain back then.

Yes, but by pliny

Profumo, as a defense Minister, was sharing the lady with the Soviet Naval Attache.

I was thinking it referred to wearing a condom. He didn't want to and she was going to force him to, otherwise no sex.

It's bad enough to have "relations" with a hooker but to insist on doing it without the love glove is disgusting.

that you have somebody else arrange for and pay the hooker! That way, if it does come out, it was a "chance encounter, "a terrible indiscretion that I deeply regret," and "a personal matter between me and my dear wife to whom I deeply regret I have caused such pain and embarrassement." See, it falls trippingly off the tongue.

In Vino Veritas

it sure did come tripping off your tongue

In the last Democrat campaign I worked on, many, many years ago, whenever the hot shot consultants and DC guys showed up in town, the first things they wanted were hookers and cocaine.

Me, I'd just go, "What? We did what? Why wasn't *I* told about that! I would have really enjoyed it, had I known we were going to do that!"

Or maybe not.

Then, if you're a Republican, you announce that you're resigning in order to spend more time with your family and repair the damage you've done. If you're a Democrat, you just go on with business as usual.

Jeez. Spitzer must be thinking: "Sheesh. You pay $5500 an hour and the chick is still kiss-and-tell. America is going down the drain."

$4,000? by Conservative Canuck

How much do you pay your governors down there that thay can afford hookers that cost that much?

At that rate he is either independently wealthy or you are paying him too much!

CC

Then who are Clients number 1 through 8?

All we know about them is that they're wealthy enough to pay some $4,000 per hour for sex.
