Caricatures Of War

This essay is an important one for anyone who wants to know how the dominant narrative on Iraq--less dominant now that news of the success of the surge and the counterinsurgency plan have gotten out, but dominant still--has been developed and continues to be developed. The key ingredients are a fierce determination to stereotype the war and to refuse to listen to stories that might thrown a few gray patches into this black-and-white affair.

In short, it is yet another example of how "the reality-based community" utterly fails to live up to the name.

and George Packer is a Seymour Hersh wanna-be.

Too bad it's behind a subscription wall. This is what's been bothering me for years about Iraq. Liberals and their media friends have already made up their storylines and narratives, irrespective of the facts on the ground.

1. McCain, 2. Thompson, 3. Giuliani, 4. Romney

...they should henceforward refer to themselves as "Community-based Reality", rather than as a "Realtity-based Community".

Deadliest Year in Iraq? by AdmitedBlueStateTroll

Most US troop deaths in a single year? That is an improvement? Most Iraq civilian deaths in a single year? That is an imporvement? Ethnic cleansing running amok, Turks boming raids into Kurdistan. I sure am glad I can fall back into my liberal storylines and not have to see those facts.

We've been mass-murdering and torturing the people in Iraq over their oil for five years now. Longer than WWII.

If you still believe we are fighting Al Quida there, or bringing them freedom, democracy, or some other such excuse, help yourself to more koolaid.

All we're doing at this point is controlling their oil and creating more jihadis. Worth $1 trillion plus a broken military and 100,000 wounded vets?

If those mercenary soldiers and Marines who work for the Republican Party and Haliburton weren't murdering Iraqis, they'd probably be looting, raping and killing in your town.

Oh, and did I mention that you're a raving idiot? Well, you are.

Ironic by conman1

Wow, this essay is incredible! Tom Donnelly has completely exposed the media bias on Iraq based on a source that cannot be disputed even by the liberals - the opinion of a single journalist? What a joke. Do you not see the irony in this story? If the media can't be trusted, why would you believe the opinion of a fellow journalist? Oh, that is right, because this one is one of the few actually telling you what you want to hear. The new GOP mantra: "The media is biased - except when they tells us what we want to hear!" Priceless.

So tell me by Finrod

How many posts have you read from bloggers in Iraq, or from Iraqi bloggers?

Can you even name one?

And what are you doing here, anyways? I'm sure you'd be much more at home back in your community-based reality (hat tip: furious).

Finrod, is that all you got? Perhaps you should actually read the essay before spouting off and looking stupid. The essay states that the source is "George Packer, longtime foreign affairs correspondent for the New Yorker," not an Iraqi blogger. So get your facts straight.

By the way, I read this post for laughs. This one was just too good to pass up without making a comment. And your reply was almost as good. Gee, I wonder if the White House knows that all it has to do is read the Iraqi blogs to find out what is really happening in Iraq. Once again, priceless!
