A new challenger approaches!

According to the former Dean for America, Democrat Charlie Brown's 2006 challenge in California CD 4 was responsible for "launching an unprecedented grassroots movement that has forever changed the electoral dynamics of the 4th Congressional District." Well, heh heh, even if that were true, it appears that movement is going to come right back.
A poll last week showed State Senator Tom McClintock, arguably the most respected conservative in California, ahead in the primary of announced candidates, taking 44% to former Rep. Doug Ose's 11%, and CRA-endorsed Rico Oller's 6%. As a result of this poll, McClintock is now considering getting into the race (Link via governing.com).
According to the Sacramento Bee, Red State-endorsed Eric Egland is ready to withdraw and endorse McClintock should the former candidate for Governor and Lt. Governor run. "He is a proven conservative. I've supported him in the past and I would love to support him again." Egland said.
In a time when conservatives are losing leaders like John Shadegg, now is a great time for a man like Tom McClintock to run for Congress.

Rico Oller keeps on tallying up the endorsements in the California District 4 primary race. The California Republican Assembly units in the district for have endorsed Rico Oller for the seat, Flash Report says. Oller took 17 votes to Eric Egland's 2 and Doug Ose's 2.
The California Republican Assembly has a long tradition and represents the conservative wing of the party. Its endorsement could be as important as that of Ted Gaines.
I have no polling to reference, but I suspect this race is all but over. It will be up to Rico Oller to pull the football from that blockhead Charlie Brown.

RedState-endorsed candidate Eric Egland just had the race to replace John Doolittle get all the harder, as Assemblyman Ted Gaines has endorsed Rico Oller. Gaines, who himself runs on low taxes, controlled spending, tough crime fighting, and an end to illegal immigration, has some very nice things to say about Oller, according to Flash Report:
Rico Oller has that experience in his own small business, and I belive he'll put that experience to work for hard working California families. Furthermore, I'm confident that Rico will do all he can to stop the out of control pork-barrel Democrat spending addiction and fight to secure our pourous borders.
I believe we need to do all we can in district 4 to ensure that Charlie Brown can't run against John Doolittle by proxy. We need to make a break from his term of office, and fighting pork and corrupt earmarks would certainly be a way to do that in the eyes of the district's voters, who lost confidence in Doolittle after the FBI investigation became public, despite supporting other Republicans on the ballot.
I'm still rooting for Egland but, to be honest, I doubt whoever wins this primary will be disliked by Red Staters.

The DCCC is not giving up on California's 4th district despite the fact John Doolittle already dropped out. Now that it's an open seat, the Democrats are naming it one of their ten targetted open seats, where national money will be spent trying to put Democratic repeat challenger Charlie Brown over the top.

Eric Egland has some more competition now that John Doolittle is officially out of the running for re-election. Former State Senator Rico Oller is running for the nomination, and former Representative Doug Ose is considering it.
Can our political novice and war veteran stand up to these political veterans? I hope so, but this race sounds a whole lot tougher now.

One more step toward Eric Egland's victory

Roll Call reports that Representative John Doolittle of California's District 4 will announce today that he will not seek re-election to a tenth term. He has scheduled a press conference at 10:30am (in two hours) for this purpose.
This is great news. Between an FBI investigation (and raid) from his Jack Abramoff connection, the fact that RedState-endorsed challenger Eric Egland was out-raising him money, and that he was poised to lose in a Bush +24, Schwarzenegger +50 district, it was time to him to go.
What a bad day for Charlie Brown, the Democratic challenger, but a good day for Republicans. Doolittle definitely out of the race should put this district out of reach of Democratic hopes.

Vote for the "weasel." It's important.

The Sacramento Bee writes about a recent meeting of Republicans at the State Convention that was headlined by speeches by Rep. John Doolittle and two challengers, including Red State-supported Eric Egland. I'm thinking that our having helped Egland out-raise Doolittle has scared the guy, because he's now referring to Egland and fellow challenger Ted Gaines as "weasels."

As a site, we've gone on record supporting a few candidates for office already. We're trying not to get too far out there, but there is one race we just can't stay out of and one candidate we can't help but get behind early and hard.
Meet Eric Egland. You might know him already. He started TroopsNeedYou.com to deliver resources to our troops in harm's way. He's been on CNN talking about his book, The Blog of War. He's been interviewed by Michelle Malkin. And most importantly, Eric Egland has fought in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
He's a pro-life conservative in a very Republican, conservative district. In fact, he's running against a Republican and we want you to help us help Eric Egland.
Eric is running against the corrupt, embattled John Doolittle, the national face of Republican scandal. Doolittle had to step down from the House Appropriations Committee because of the pending investigation against him. The FBI has already raided his home. But Doolittle won't retire because if he gets re-elected one more time he can get his full congressional pension.
This is a seat that will stay Republican. But, should Doolittle stay in it, it's a seat that could drag down other Republicans because of Doolittle's scandal. In 2004, Bush won it with over 60% of the vote.
Eric Egland is a stellar candidate, a small government conservative, and our choice for CA-04.
We need to take our party back. And Eric Egland's race would be a great start.
