197 Days until Election Day
MORNING UPDATE:
Pennsylvania voters head to the polls. Clinton and Obama going down to the wire.
The Democrats are preparing for the fall election and have prepared the “Atlas Project”, writing campaign that plans on targeted states. Yup, you guessed it…Michigan is one of the states the Democrats are afraid of losing. We agree!
Michigan Clinton supporters (certain unions) defeated Obama supporters for some “uncommitted” slots, setting up a “stealth” Clinton come-back as they head to their national convention. This is FAR from over.

Our Michigan delegation presented our “Victory Plan” to the national McCain campaign in conjunction with the RNC yesterday. Michigan is a swing state that will play a key role in this fall’s election. We are ready to help elect our next President…John McCain.
In other action, the RNC Rules Committee passed the Ohio Plan, taking the first step towards changing the rules for the 2012 presidential process. Next step the full RNC meeting in August and then, on to the convention.

McCain sweeps Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia!
Obama sweeps the same! Some believe he’s ready to be Commander in Chief?!
WSJ reports: An old adage says high taxes don't redistribute income, they redistribute people. For new evidence look no further than migration patterns within the United States, as documented in a new survey by the moving company United Van Lines.

Posted at 8:49am on Feb. 11, 2008 MI Morning Update: Party will Unite - CPAC was Great Success - Dems Snub MI Voters...AGAIN!
By saul anuzis
269 Days until Election Day
MORNING UPDATE:
I’ve received a lot of emails this weekend about “uniting our party” and others expressing “frustration” over how the process is developing. My advice…keep the faith.
The process is moving forward, we all work for the candidates we support in the primary…and then work hard to unite behind our nominee. McCain, Huckabee and Paul are still in the race, it’s working itself out…we’ll know more after Tuesday.

Posted at 8:20pm on Jan. 19, 2008 Not with a bang, but a whimper
A campaign haunted by the hollow words "What might have been....?"
By Jeff Emanuel
So long, Fred; we hardly even knew ye.
Well, that's not entirely accurate -- we knew you far better than we've known many a politician who's thrown his hat in the Presidential ring in years past (or even this year; see "Hunter, Duncan" or "Gravel, Mike" for examples).
We knew you well enough that, when it seemed that the Republican field needed a White Knight to ride in on a shiny steed and save it (and us) from itself, we didn't call on Newt Gingrich or Jeb Bush; we called on you.
We supported you through the flirtations with running for office. At first, it was understandable. After all, you're a family man, with young children and a comfortable day job, and it would have been far too much to ask for you to simply shelve all of that for the high-stress life of the Presidential candidate without giving the matter a second thought. Whatever your decision, though, you knew that rank-and-file Republicans the country over were calling out your name, and were ready to pledge their support to you should you agree to throw your hat into the ring for the nation's highest office.
We waited with bated breath, as expected announcement date after expected announcement date passed by, with little or no action on your part. As the summer wore on, and gave itself over to autumn, though, the game became a bit less enjoyable for the rest of us.
Like the townspeople who tired of hearing the young sheepherder cry "Wolf!" over and over again when there was no such threat to his flock, those who had supported you wholeheartedly at the beginning of this process began to waver in their commitment, and the field of "FredHeads," as so many of those enthusiastic supporters called themselves, began to dwindle.

Posted at 7:33am on Jan. 17, 2008 MI Morning Update: MI GOP's delegate allocation, a look into Romney's victory
By saul anuzis
294 Days until Election Day
MORNING UPDATE:
Final numbers are in and based on the fact that Mitt Romney won 13 of 15 congressional districts, John McCain won 2 and Huckabee qualified for at-large delegates by getting 16% of the statewide vote and we calculated the following allocation:
Romney: 45
McCain: 10
Huckabee: 2
Our press release is below.
I received a whole lot of questions on how Governor Romney won Michigan and if there were some “untold” stories that folks were missing. Not really, I think it was very straight forward:

Who Needs a Frontrunner, Anyway? - Or - Ugh, Pundits!
By Mark I
Last night’s results in the Michigan primary further muddle the already muddled Republican nomination race. There have been three different winners in the first four contests, and by the end of the month, there may well have been four out of January’s seven. Still the media and punditocracy charge headlong into the scrum, seeking desperately to crown someone--anyone--with the supposedly all-important status of frontrunner.
Last night, it was Gov. Mitt Romney’s turn. Fox News’ election night coverage saw fit to crown him the frontrunner on the strength of his impressive victory in Michigan. But Mitt Romney is not a frontrunner. He carries no momentum into South Carolina on Saturday. Indeed, Romney trails the candidate whose frontrunner status he allegedly usurped by winning Michigan, Sen. John McCain; and trails the candidate whose frontrunnership was taken by McCain in New Hampshire, Gov. Mike Huckabee. Truth be told, neither McCain nor Huckabee were frontrunners either when they were so knighted by the media kingmakers.
So, why the rush? Why is the media so intent on declaring this guy or that as the frontrunner so early in what is shaping up to be a long primary process? And what’s so great about having a frontrunner, anyway?

MORNING UPDATE:
Governor Mitt Romney won an impressive come back victory in Michigan last night. Coming out of New Hampshire, Michigan turned into a close battleground between Governor Romney and Senator McCain.
As the week progressed, Governor Romney hit his stride and won the state outright and won at least 12 of the 15 congressional districts throughout the state.

Congratulations to the Oakland County Republicans for they hugely successful dinner. Over 700 Republicans packed the hall for great food and friendship…getting ready for the election today. I joined Oakland County Republicans and their elected leaders as they greeted Governor Mitt Romney as their guest of honor who gave an inspiring speech about the spirit of America and the greatness of Michigan.

Posted at 11:00pm on Jan. 11, 2008 The Tears Were Fake, But the Rumors Were True
Or, Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Obama?
By Mark I
Before the New Hampshire primary, when it looked like Hillary!™ Clinton was going down to a second consecutive humiliating defeat at the hands of Barack Obama; the rumors of her campaign’s impending doom were thick. I speculated at the time that the rumors were a campaign rouse designed to rally Clinton’s supporters to “save” her candidacy.
And then the waterworks came.
I believed upon seeing the video that Clinton’s tears were crocodilian and I still do. When she won the primary unexpectedly, I, like many others, thought it confirmed that the rumors were just a well-played part of the low expectations game. But on second thought, I have become convinced that Clinton’s crying game is evidence that her campaign really was in turmoil, and that a big loss that night could have finished her off.
